The lie is right there in the PDN's headline: Cherie Kidd on Feb. 2 Council meeting: "I have learned from this experience"
The problem with that notion being that, as we have all observed and learned from years of bitter experience, Cherie Kidd is totally incapable of learning. Her clock is stopped, her cake is baked. There's no alterations or substitutions allowed. She is what she is, darn it.
And what she is is a hypocritical idiot.
Deputy Mayor Cherie Kidd stepped back from staunchly defending her decision to abruptly gavel a February 2nd meeting to a halt, saying she has learned from the experience, but stopping short of an outright apology.
On Tuesday, Kidd retreated from her statement following the ethics board's decision that she "acted properly" at the February 2nd meeting. She read a prepared statement...saying she wanted "to take this opportunity to report to the council" that she ran the February 2nd meeting according to state law, Robert's Rules of Order, the council rules of procedure and Association of Washington Cities guidelines.
"As my dear mother used to say, we do the best we can with what we know at the time, and I led that meeting to the best of my ability," she said.
Yes, as always, she looks sorry, but does she
look apologetic or embarrassed? No, she does not.
She is staring daggers.
So, yeah, that's pretty far from an apology. She's essentially saying she was right, her critics are wrong, and if they don't like it, take it up with Robert's Rules and the AWC, because, darn it, she did the best she could. What she clearly STILL doesn't realize is that her best was, to say the least, woefully inadequate, rude, and totally counterproductive. And by making such a statement in this way - as a stand-alone, no questions asked statement, talking at the Council, rather than talking with her fellow Council members - all she managed to do was display the exact same arrogance and cluelessness that caused the trouble in the first place. "I was right, I still am right, my mommy says I'm right, end of story."
And in classic fashion...Kidd did not return repeated calls for comment Wednesday.
That photo says it all. She's not sorry; she's still pissed off that anyone would dare challenge her.
ReplyDeleteSuch astounding arrogance for someone who is so very, very marginal.
Yeah, I witnessed this Tuesday night and it was staggering in its arrogance and denial. No, she is not chastened at all. There was not an ounce of contrition in her well-prepared speech. He mama would be ashamed for sure. You can be sure the next time such an occasion arises she will resort to form and do the same again--and again. It is from wretches like her we must snatch this town come November 2017.
ReplyDeleteAnd, this is what people like Cherie and Trump,Cherie Trump, have concluded. No more working with all segments of society. Things are now "either/or". Either you agree with my rhetoric and blatant pandering to a reactionary base, or you just don't count.
ReplyDeleteCircle up the wagons, and defend your point of view against all critics, rather than find a way to live with those that see things differently.
Because, according to Jim and Cherie Trump, THEY see things the RIGHT way, and that is that. If you see things differently, you are the enemy to be fought against.
Either Kidd is conscious of what she does (including the lying under oath), and is therefore an absolute scumbag, or she is not conscious, and therefore mentally disabled and unqualified for any public office.
ReplyDeleteSo...Cherie is saying she's sorry...sorry that the rest of the council doesn't know they're wrong, and she's right.
ReplyDeleteOh.
Hey, PDN and Paul Gottlieb...How is it "stepping back" from her earlier statements when she sits there and tells the city council, yet again, that she was right? That she did no wrong? That's not "stepping back" or changing her position. It's what she's been saying all along!
ReplyDeleteThat why the initials stand for Pravda Daily News!
DeleteMore like Peninsula Doesn't kNow.
DeleteFYVM - I like it!
DeleteRussia would never tolerate what the PDN does. Please, let's not insult them!
DeleteDo not forget that Kidd illegally presided over that Feb. 2 meeting. Mr. Mayor was present by speaker phone ("AVS" under the rules), therefore if he did not want to preside for that meeting, the rules then in effect said: "the presiding officer for that meeting shall be selected by a majority of the vote of those Council Members present, provided there is a quorum."
ReplyDeleteKidd had no authority whatsoever to even accept the Mayor's offer of that infamous gavel.
With that unremedied fundamental violation of the Council's own rules, the entire meeting was null and void.
No consent agenda was lawfully passed.
No franchise ordinance amendment.
No EDC funding.
No landfill change order.
No computer server replacements.
No nothing.
Why can't people wrap their heads around this very simple point of order? Why didn't anyone hold Kidd to account for this arrogant usurpation of power?
But the real question remains: What the hell is wrong with people around here that she is still in office?
Yeah, exactly.
DeleteSo what that the PDN obliged her by printing an article about her non-apology apology? Look at the comments on that article - all negative and critical.
Why IS she still holding public office?
The only honorable thing for her to do is resign. But, since she has no honor, I guess it's up to people to protest and demand that she resign.
Further shaming is required.
I completely agree.
DeleteCherie Kidd is a disgrace to her community, and no amount of "holding your head high" will change that, or what people think of her.
And, for all he arrogance, what does she think she is accomplishing? Showing the public she doesn't care what the public she supposedly serves, thinks? How does that, in ANY way, fit with the job description for the position she holds?
Please, Anonymous 10:07, who do you think you're talking about? I mean, really, no joke, Cherie Kidd would struggle to spell "job description" without help. She is a addlepated moron. Though I agree with the diagnosis of her as arrogant, I think often she just becomes flustered and frightened by things she doesn't understand, and this fear comes across as arrogance. But really, she's in over her head, and knows it.
DeleteGottlieb is the one in need of shaming. He has his nose so far up Kidd's ass he cannot see what's happening in the world around him. Ever notice how many times he goes to her for comment on the most inane topics. "Cherie, what did you think of the rain last night?"
DeleteWe do have to remember that Cherie Kidd and her distorted views are supported by others in this town.
ReplyDeleteThat is very much why this town cannot do anything.
Idiots enabling morons, indeed!
DeleteI'm no brain trust, but if I were on the Council, one of the first things I'd do is contact Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, and other high-tech companies, and offer them some real estate tax breaks for their off-campus meetings and retreats. (And apologize to Microsoft for turning them away the first time.) Let them buy one or more of the many old run-down hotels to pick from, and fix it up to their needs.
The natural beauty here would sell itself for people like that. Sure, some are young & arrogant, but so what? REAL business activity would pick up. What's wrong with that? Better than all the non-profit welfare schemes that do NOT do a damn thing for the community at large.
Microsoft = tech company.
DeleteTech company = young workforce.
And Port Angeles does not equal a place that tech savvy, well off and cosmopolitan young people are going to live.
Ever.
Where did this whole Microsoft got turned away rumor get started anyhow? It's an urban myth. Never happened.
9:56, every time that story comes up on a local page, I ask. Never found a shred of of fact to support it. It's like those buses that bring all the homeless people here in the night.
DeleteMaybe those aren't buses full of homeless people...They're buses full of bright, young Microsoft employees, looking for their new office space. Then, finding none, they are forced to turn to panhandling, where they make $200 a day.
DeleteCherie, we've got to DO SOMETHING about all of this!
There are so many things that the so-called leadership of this community could do to make things better here.
DeleteBut, I still think the mindset that waits for Microsoft, Apple or any other "White Knight in Shining Armor" to save us from ourselves is misdirected.
As Stevie said years ago:

Port Angleles and all that "natural beauty" has been available for the rape, pillage and plunder by big multi-national corporations, and HAS been raped, plundered and pillaged for a hundred years now. That is how we got to where we are now.
For how many more years are we going to fantasize about "what if"? If we have all this wonderful stuff, what are we waiting for?
Somebody else?
I get the constant criticism of the transactions around here. The perps behind them well deserve it.
DeleteBut I don't see people coming up with better ideas. Just like the current County election with nothing really new being discussed>
What will next year's council candidates run on? More grant-whoring? Or a few fresh ideas that might actually help this place?
And what of each of you blog readers?
I don't see people posting here with thoughtful alternatives to grant-whoring.
I thought the idea in the Port O Call about turning the Nippon mill into an indoor farm was interesting, and new. I haven't heard that before.
DeleteBut, I'm not hearing any of the Port people, or the PDN, or any of our so-called leaders looking into that.
They are all too busy getting all excited about pouring millions of taxpayers money into that waste composite idea. That makes sense to them.
Be on the lookout for a follow-up article on the re-purposing of the Nippon building in the October issue of Port O Call.
DeleteDoes anyone really think that the Port, the EDC, the Council, or the papers are capable of leadership/vision? Gimme a break! They've already demonstrated time and time again how worthless they are.
DeleteFor better or worse, it's up to joe average to come up with a vision. Or any "anonymous" here.
So, on that indoor farm idea, much more needs to be discussed, than just pitching the dream.
Isn't the best way to start by starting small?
A pilot project of sorts? Will the land owner even permit a rental of a small portion of that cavern in order to get a realistic start?
Because if you keep focused on the large-scale dream, it'll never get going.
And just who is the team who's going to bring this to fruition? Yes it's a great idea, but the devil is in the details.
I'm looking forward to hearing more. Thanks Port O Call.
DeleteRe: Starting small. Maybe. Some things work that way, but not all. Car factories are large, because of the scale of things, for example.
From what I understand, the land is publicly owned. Not sure if it is the State, Feds or City. Seems to me if they can fall all over themselves finding money and support for a hazardous waste recycling dream, they should be at least as excited about something that is clearly a benefit to the town.
I mean, it isn't like the hazardous waste was here, and they are helping us solve a problem. They are all jiggy about bringing the damn stuff here, from hundreds of miles away!
The remote high tech waste, the new asinine useless windmills, the fake beach, etc. are all just the direct result of grant-whoring, where the city will do anything, ANYTHING for grant money.
DeleteWhich by definition means that the city has no vision of its own; this city relies on outsiders to provide the projects which result in what we have here.
It's not like the city or a business group invented the concept of CTRC, and then looked around for ways to fund it. To the contrary, it all starts with dangling the bribe.
And whatever it takes to get the check, no matter how detrimental, no matter how much lying isinvolved, is what is done.
For the record...I think Donald Trump is a lunatic, egomaniac, bigoted, know-nothing fool who cares nothing about the "common man." I also think that Hillary Clinton is a greedy, self-serving, ethically shaky war hawk who cares nothing about the "common person."
ReplyDeleteI will not be voting for either of these deeply, deeply, DEEPLY flawed candidates. That's for the record.
Also for the record...Comments submitted that attempt to turn this blog into the general direction of the Presidential Election...Will go nowhere. Focus in on Clallam County. It's gonna have plenty of its own problems no matter who wins. No need to try to make shots at the Repuglicant or Demoratic Presidential contenders - unless it really is germane to the discussion here.
Once again, you're right on target. The self serving media tries to make stupid topics like Hillary having a cold a major issue for us all to worry about, and spend countless hours prattling on about nothings. Rather than issues that will actually affect the future of our country.
DeleteBut we are most affected, every day, by what happens locally. Right here. Every glass of water you drank was impacted by Cherie Kidd and the Fluoride Four. Not morons like Donald Trump.
The linkage, unfortunately, seems to be the mindset that this election cycle seems to have validated, and thus unleashed. Sure, we have always had right wing crazies. Clallam County, and Port Angeles in particular, has had a nest of the devotees of the crazy right wing group, the John Birch Society, for decades. Their influence still dominates the underpinnings of Port Angeles politics to this day. But, they are literally dying off. Change is upon us.
Maybe we're seeing this in Clallam, now. Yes, the throw back candidate Maggie Roth got votes, but she didn't win. The local Re-bublicans are still resorting to what worked in the past, with their candidate trying to deceive the voters by saying they really are not Re-bublican, but some kind of "Independent". What? Too embarrassed to carry the name of the party you're running to represent? Dare we ask why?
It is pathetic that the community does not demand more from the campaign process, locally. Why is there no robust debate about who is going to do what, specifically, to address the areas' many issues? Why accept the meaningless "I'll work to create good paying jobs" phrases, we hear cycle after cycle? So few people even show up at political events, in town.
Compared to when the Seahawks are in the playoffs? Then you'll see people talking. Then you see bumper stickers, banners and flags.
Attention troll...Sending threatening comments, however badly spelled, however frequently, will not change the facts of Gabe Rygaard's death, nor will it impact my ability to point out that his death was, very much in large part, due to his own actions. If actual reality is uncomfortable for you, might I suggest you slip back into watching "reality" TV?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
"Funny" how some people think it works! You know, how they see things is the right way, and if they see somebody with different views or opinions, well, you threaten them!
DeleteOn a related note...Hey, troll...If you think that your grade school level homophobic taunts are going to "get me," or make me angry or whatever...I hate to disappoint you. Go gay rights! Yay, gay marriage! I love Hello Kitty!
DeleteIn other words...Such bigoted taunts say a lot about you, while having no discernible affect on me.
Oh, and I always - and I do mean ALWAYS - wear my seatbelt. How gay of me, right?
CK, you know Tom Harper uses more than a few anti-gay insults on his blog to put people down. Just sayin'.
