Clallam County: The Crazy Magnet (The Shorts Changed Edition) ***UPDATED!***

Because, really, we just needed this to get even more bizarre, right?

An Edmonds man with a history of publishing the private information of law enforcement officers has asked the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office to hand over pet licensing information of more than 2,000 pet owners and information about county law enforcement.

William Sheehan made the request Monday to “make available upon inspection any and all documents that will show all of the licensed pets in Clallam County, including license numbers, owner information and all other pertinent information,” according to an email Sheehan sent to the Sheriff’s Office Monday.

It’s nearly identical to a request Port Angeles resident and thrice convicted felon Adam Chamberlin rescinded last week after public response when the Sheriff’s Office made his request public. Chamberlin said Thursday he does not know Sheehan.

Part of the reason for the second request, according to a Facebook post by Sheehan, is that Sheriff Bill Benedict “shamed the original requester.”

Soon to be mandatory for all Clallam County residents...

Who is this nut? Here's a little context from a New York Times article from 2003:

His low opinion of the police has its roots, Mr. Sheehan says, in a 1998 dispute with the Police Department of Kirkland, Wash., over whether he lied in providing an alibi for a friend charged with domestic violence. Mr. Sheehan was found guilty of making a false statement and harassing a police officer and was sentenced to six months in jail, but served no time: the convictions were overturned.

Clallam County's crazy has gotten so powerful, it's now sucking in other regional craziness. It's almost - almost - enough to make you feel a little bit sorry for Bill Benedict.

******UPDATED!******

Thanks to whomever sent the link in...Here's a little more Clallam County crazy for you, wherein an elderly candidate for Port Commissioner says:

“No blows were struck. No medical attention was necessary. However, I think he did have to change his shorts."

I think Michael Cobb may have soiled his reputation with this one...Enjoy!

  1. I'm sure this will make the average, ordinary citizens of Clallam County really, really happy. Will make them feel so secure, knowing these wackos actually do stuff like this.

Sure, the Freedom of Information Act is there, but that doesn't mean it should be used to find information on everyday ordinary people, potentially for nefarious reasons by documented criminals and wackos.

    Ah, yes. "The Information Age".

  2. Child branders, bulldozers and backwoods bullshit. Our major industries and exports to the world.

No wonder traffic on the ferries is down. No one even wants to risk just passing through this town.

Except...My god! What if they combined to form one, gigantic black hole that sucked everything into it except for a few lingering notes of the theme from THE TWILIGHT ZONE...And what if they added Tim Eyman to their colossal massholishness???

  5. So, did anyone else see the article today about Michael Cobb, who is running for Port Commissioner? It was quite a read - full of incredibly macho and boastful quotes from Mr. Cobb, about how he was (basically) going to kick the ass of the (bigger, younger) guy who has (supposedly) been harassing Cobb's gal. It fit right into the whole Clallam County crazy theme.

Especially since, as of now, it's GONE. It's no longer on the PDN's website, I can't find a link to it through search engines. It seems to be GONE. Which would probably suit Cobb's interests, because it just made him look ridiculous - a bragging, loudmouth grandpa. (Kind of like the current occupant of the White house, eh?)

Did anyone else read that article? Can anyone else find it online? Where'd it go? And why?

  6. I don't give a rats ass why the guy in Edmonds decided to put in the same request -- hope he gets some $$ when our Sheriff decides to sand bag him instead of doing his damn job and just filling the request.

The information on you is everywhere. Hell people put more on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media that you could ever get from a dog license. Your Safeway Club Card is all data that can be purchased -- listing every single thing you've ever purchased. People can look up everything they want about you, your court records, your property records, when you voted, etc. And some people put their life history on the likes of LinkedIn (open to anyone who wants to pay the fee for full access).

And people are going to be freaked out about a dog license? Who gives a damn? Great, find out my dogs name, and when she had shots, and maybe even if it has a micro chip.

You can find my address in the phone book. You can find pictures of my dog, my kids, my friends on Facebook. SO? AND?

This is an attack on the Freedom of Information Act by the dingbat Sheriff. Period. He doesn't want to do his damn job. No one could make a tidy living by suing over these idiot government agencies not filling the information requests. And, it's all f*cking AUTOMATED. It's not like someone needs to go into the dusty archives and pull out some old faded 3x5 index cards.

(Although I suspect that is really the problem -- that the County isn't keeping any record, just taking money, and saying "why do the work"?)

We NEED the Freedom of Information Act to keep government open -- it is the ONLY WAY that joe citizen can get information out of the government, especially the stuff that involves shady dealings, and bullshit insider stuff.

So, I don't care if some idiot filed the same request. I'll file on too. Hell, we should all file the same request and make the Sheriff do his damn job, and not whine about it.

    1. I don't think most people who are aware of these two requests think the Freedom of Information Act is bad, or should be repealed. I didn't hear anybody suggest that.

What I did hear was concern from a LOT of people that convicted criminals were asking for information that would provide the addresses of specific people in the community, people with dogs.

If I were to try to find out if the people at a specific address had a dog, finding that on Face Book and Instagram would be pretty difficult. Just sayin'.

This issue is not so much about the FOIA or the Sheriff, but that convicted criminals and known wackos are requesting this particular batch of information about a lot of people in the community.

  7. I read the article on line this morning (Sunday, 8/6/17) and when I saw the "Crazy Magnet" headline here I thought this thread would be discussing the strange antics of candidate Cobb. I'm with you, CK, in reacting negatively to his statements, and thinking that something is very screwy.

  8. Be glad we got a candidate. Hell these offices go uncontested most of the time. The other port commish office is uncontested so be glad we have a contest in this one. Might find out more about the incumbent when she has a candidate to compete with.

    1. I guess you're right. But having crappy candidates is just as bad as having no candidates? You still end up with crappy representation.

The names of the "officials" of this group are well known to this blog --- as the opposite of unselfish altruistic civic minded citizens. Haguewood; Ahlburg; Pixie Bob; etc etc.

  10. FWIW, just saw this update today. Surely some will appreciate the convenience of a direct link to the PDN, but all that does is spur on Mr. Black and his dark agendas. The facts that get omitted from Mr. Black's publications are nothing but manipulative and contemptful, and do way more social harm than good.

I submit that one can have a very good life while refusing in any way to indulge media for the masses.

    1. I agree. I don't click on any links to the PDN, anywhere, any time. I refuse to support that so-called paper. And, I tell every one I know why, and ask them not to patronize the PDN.

Friends don't let friends patronize the Peninsula Daily News.

  11. If he wanted to have his physical address kept private he should have consulted an attorney about how to do this BEFORE he filled out a form that clearly states you are subject to a felony if you provide false information . It does not say unless you feel you have a good reason. He is an adult and certainly, he could have made time to have this all figured out before hand. He is adult enough to know that putting your hands on anyone unless they are an imminent threat, is assault. Since the police were summoned and Cobb was charged and convicted of assault I am presuming there was no imminent threat. Don't get me wrong I am all for violating laws that infringe on personal freedoms or that benefit a few at the expense of many but neither of these examples is ringing my civil protester bell. Apparently, his personal desire to run for commissioner out weighed his aversion to knowingly commit a felony and his hope was that it would not be found out. I find that very troubling. We already have enough elected ,hired and appointed government officials in clallam county who spend their time feeling their way around the intent of the law or just ignoring it completely
