Buy High, Sell Low!

Another sign of the decline...Literally.

What aisle is meat on? Well, there's dead meat on every aisle...

In 2015, Sprint SPE HG2015-1, LLC (one of those again) paid $9,567,378 for the old Haggen market building in Port Angeles. (Need I remind you that said LLC is way behind on their taxes?)

The building was "appraised" as being worth about half that - $4,787,471.

It's up for auction, and the original minimum bid was just a fraction of that - $250,000.

As of Monday, they'd received a whopping one bid on it - for just $25,000.

The auction has thus been extended, I guess because they haven't reached rock-bottom yet. So if anyone is interested in picking up a derelict supermarket for $250...Just wait a bit

You can follow the auction action online at: amcbid.com

  1. If this city can produce a drop in value like that for a commercial property, just imagine what they can do, given a little more time and decay, with residential home values.

It might be a good time to try and sell, while you still can. Once the infrastructure crumbles even more, the debt load crushes the city's ability to do anything, and the dropout rate hits 60%, you won't be able to give property here away.

Except, of course, to the drug dealers. they continue to do well here it seems.

  2. But wait! Aren't the real estate agents telling us what a red hot market Port Angeles is?

I don't know what is going on, but in driving to different places in the area yesterday, I saw so many new "For Sale" signs. No "Sold" signs, though.

I think people are TRYING to get away from here.

But, as this thread reveals, you can't even give away property in Port Angeles!

  3. A supposedly multi-million dollar supermarket building, and the best they can muster is an offer of $25,000?

We all need groceries. They aren't optional. We all have to eat, buy toilet paper, etc. But, as this indicates, Port Angeles is not a community that can feasibly support more than one grocery store. Even though, as noted, they sell necessities, not temptations. (Sorry! Couldn't resist.)

But, despite this, we're currently being told that PA can support not one but two new performance spaces, in addition to the ones we already have. Circuses, but not bread?

The current thrust of "development" (aka scamming) in PA is inherently ridiculous, bound for failure. The fact that we don't even warrant another grocery store only makes this more evident. The Titanic is going down, and here come the good old boys trying to sell us all some delicious, refreshing shaved ice. It makes no sense, none at all.

And I doubt we'll hear anything about any of this during the upcoming election. Just more happy talk, and unqualified candidates. But hey, Safeway's management is probably happy right now.

  4. Wouldn't this make a much better site for a performing arts center than the tiny, no-parking-available one on Oak Street?
Come on all you LLC entrepreneurs. Buy this property!

    1. Building a performance venue, and then going from 300 to 500 seats, without parking...Even a five year old child could see there's a problem there. Unfortunately, all the five year olds in Port Angeles are too busy to help run things, so...

  5. Buy high, sell low is just about the most perfect motto for Port Angeles I've ever heard.

    1. Which would conceivably replace the classic Port Angeles motto: "If at first you'd don't succeed, fail, fail again!"

  6. Even if they get their rock-bottom bid of $250,000, that's a huge drop from what they paid for it just a couple of years ago. Now, I'm sure that someone, somewhere made money on this deal, but at the end of the day, that low, low price is like a review of Port Angeles: Failing and falling, with no end in sight. I cannot imagine what anyone would do with that giant building. I can imagine it pulling down home values in the surrounding area.

  7. With the current crop of candidates who made it past the primary, absolutely there's no end in sight for FAILTOWN USA.

  9. UPDATE! Not that it's actually exciting enough to justify an exclamation point, but...Anyway, the asking price is now down to $200,000...And the top bid is $175,000. Will we be seeing a love match here? Stay tuned...

    2. It looks like it's done. The auction is now closed and it seems that someone laid out $1,560,000 for the property - roughly a third of what it's appraised at. Stay tuned...

    3. Oh, and before you start typing your grammatically suspect "See-real-estate-is-moving-in-Port-Angeles!" response troll, let's note again that this distressed property, in a distressed community, sold for around a third of its appraised value.

That hardly denotes a RED HOT real estate market.

  11. The bid amounts don't include the past due taxes of $27K that have to be paid at closing. Plus any other liens.

  12. It is "funny" that anyone would even try to convince people that Port Angeles is a good market, for anything. The history and facts of what happens here are easy enough for anyone to research and see for themselves.

And I have no doubt new people will come to town, "see the potential", buy some place thinking they have found a gem in the rough, only to come to understand what a cesspool the place really is, later.

That is the pattern that keeps this town from dying faster than it would otherwise.

  13. But don't you see why this is the way it is? It's all a clever plan.

If the crooks were prosecuted, and the slumlords made to upgrade, and the school board removed their heads from their asses, and the good ideas were implemented, and the citizens started breeding with outsiders to diversify the gene pool, then PA would quickly be more than attractive, the infrastructure would get overrun, and all the problems of bigger towns would end the Heyday of Hooterville.

This forward-thinking visionary planning ensures that PA will remain the little scam central that it now enjoys. Just look at the gallery of rogues who've profited, they're all smiles and life is grand!

  14. But, where is that aircraft carrier that was going to be moored off the Rayonier property, and be that big tourist attraction? Where is Rodriguez and the restored Kalakala that was supposed to be moored in Port Angeles harnor, and be a big tourist attraction?

When is Dan going to drop the hammer on the Fantasy Tram?

All these promises, and we're still waiting.

  15. It is truly amazing how many robot spam messages about "Game of Thrones" I get on this email account. I have never seen a single second of that show, or mentioned it here, and yet...The spambots churn those messages out. It's so obvious, and so pointless. It reminds me of a certain small town that put so much energy into voting for itself as the BEST TOWN EVER in some stupid click bait contest...

    1. Interesting! I've never got one.

Also, interesting to see how quiet Port Angeles is these days, even after all that click bait hype. Sure, there are tourists driving by, but nothing like one would expect.

I did the drive to Seattle and back a few days ago, and the traffic on the roads to and from Port Angeles area were easy. No sopping, or slow grind behind some lost tourist going 40 mph. As soon as I hit I-5, it was mayhem. I could have walked faster than the traffic was moving in a few areas.

Do I wish for crowds and traffic congestion? No. But the conditions showed me that despite all the money spent to market and promote Port Angeles, the stink of what it really is overwhelms those efforts, and people just drive on by.

    2. It may be that all this discussion of Port Angeles and the grifts, the back stabbing, the hidden agendas, all look so much like Game of Thrones that the bots assume that's what kind of spam would be appropriate!

  16. This pisses me off. For years the high school sports teams suffered with a piss poor sound system at Civic Field. Then the for profit Lefties Scam came to town. (thanks Ohole) and voila the city found the funds to put in a new sound system. Where'd they get the money. Remember all the urgency about getting those damn trees cut at Lincoln Park so the non-existent planes could land safely? Well that was a red herring. The city desperately needed the money to put in the sound system for the Lefties and rushed through this horse shit about the FAA demanding the trees be cut for ambulance flights etc. FAA denied any involvement. At the same time the city council closed the circle when they changed a long standing policy where any money made on logging Lincoln Park must be spent on Lincoln Park. At the same meeting where they rushed through the emergency cut the trees resolution they also changed the policy so that money made at Lincoln Park could be spent at ANY park in town. Viola, now they have money for a new sound system at Civic Field. The townspeople should be up in arms to realize they suffered through years of shit-for-sound system but bring in a bullshit baseball team and everyone bends over backwards to accommodate them. Horse shit. No other way to describe it. This is the true face of your city council.

    1. One more of many ways the locals get scammed by the so-called leadership.

And, yet another example of how the city finds ways to move money around to accomplish what THEY want.

But find money for the 8th street suicide barriers?

  17. I am telling you drug rehabs should be our future. We are some what isolated. We have a captive drug fueled population, most with government funded health care. What we need Is someone who is smart enough to research the most suscessful cutting edge treatment for opioid and other drug treatments . We need to suscessfully treat a large percent of our unemployed homegrown addicts and then get them through what ever classes needed to run treatment centers and treat addiction. Then we can open treatment centers specializing in different drugs and economic abilities to pay for said treatments . All the treatment centers can be owned by a community based profit sharing corporation. With all treatment funding shared by all treatment centers. Sort of a robbing peter to pay paul idea. We could become THE TREATMENT CAPITAL OF THE US! We could provide decent family wage jobs for our extremely large uneducated addicted felon population.
