Two Great Ideas That Taste Late Together!

I saw the article in the PDN today about tonight's City Council meeting, the one at which they will be considering two - count 'em, two! - "new" ideas that have been floating around City Hall FOREVER. One is a new taxing district, that Cherie Kidd is trying to pitch as one that mostly visitors will pay. (Not true.) The other is a changing of the zoning rules to keep more social services from locating downtown in the "economic core" of Port Angeles. Cherie's pitching this one as, jeepers, really just a minor tweak in the existing rules. (Not true.)

Given the sorry state of Port Angeles, and the City's finances, I'd say these are too little (tax revenue) and too late (to halt the decline of downtown). They also don't get at the heart of the problem, which is that the people making decisions for Port Angeles are, for the most part, idiots.

All of which brings us back to Cherie Kidd again. Sorry about that! But there was already one comment on the PDN article, and it started off by stating a simple truth...

I've just discovered that one way to make an idea seem ill-thought-out and mean-spirited before I've even read about it is to publish it with a photo of Cherie Kidd.

Well, we won't be making that mistake here.

There! Now everything is perfect - and even in color, too! Now, you boys get off to school, and I'll see you tonight after the City Council meeting...In 1958. And remember: It's another GREAT day in Port Angeles!

  1. Kidd is the only council member who can lie on cue. The others have to warm up a bit but not the Kidder. Get used to the fact we are going to get nickeled and dimed for the rest of the time this council has this kind of power. We can change that in November and give the power back to the people.

  2. The first positive and forward thinking thing I've seen to come out of PA is today's article on how you can now take a bus direct from the transit center in PA all the way to the Bainbridge ferry terminal without transfers. Somebody there is paying attention to the fact that we just are not going to get an airline. This is a great option because then you just walk on the ferry and then on to the light rail and voila - you're at SeaTac and it was cheap and simple!

The "wtf are they thinking" award goes to the article on the increase in visitors to ONP. Think any of that is having a trickle down effect on PA? No, the local officials are happy to let all those tourist dollars slip through their fingers.

  3. When your own City Finance Officer tells you that you have taxed the residents "to the limits", you have to come up with "new ideas" to keep milking people.

Once again, Cherie and crew demonstrate how disconnected they are from the Real Port Angeles. The one that is unemployed, under-employed, poor and otherwise in trouble. The Real Port Angeles that results in Clallam County being designated by the State as "Distressed". The Real Port Angeles the City references when they apply for grants in order to finance everything.

The Real Port Angeles that makes up the majority of the employment in this town: social services.

If it were not for the social service agencies, organizations and other service providers, Port Angeles wouldn't be here.

But, in typical air-head fashion that is Port Angeles, these people think they can legislate the homeless and "unwashed masses" out of their downtown, and then everything will be wonderful.

It isn't their history of bad decisions that has created the lack of growth, development or prosperity for the town, it is the people who are the victims of their poor leadership that need the social services, that are the problem.

  4. It's one thing to be dumb as a doorknob, which Kidd demonstrates every day.
It's quite another to be so disturbed as to loudly and proudly parade your abject stupidity to the entire world.
That she has minions pretty much sums up this place.

  5. And, what did our city council decide to do?

    1. Since the city council has neglected street repair for 20 years we are now in crisis mode and of course they merely raise the taxes again to repair the roads which they should have been doing regularly for decades--instead of the boutique beaches and squirlly windmills on the waterfront.

    2. they will make us wait until next council meeting to decide if they will put it on the August primary ballot (it must go to the voters). But given the lengthy parking lot meeting of the staff and city manager, they're coming up with a plan to make it sound like ice cream and cake.

    3. Right. And, as we've seen for the last ?? months since the promenade and fake beaches were built, they really have been successful! Money well spent! The new crowds of tourists and locals now swarming to the area makes traveling through there difficult. The businesses are doing so well, and real estate in the immediate area really got a boost! Those properties in the center of down town, that have been for sale for all these years, well, they all just sold, and for more than asking price!

It has been such a successful transformation, it is easy to see why city staff should be listened to, now. Again.

With successes like these, does anybody wonder why this town is so screwed up?

  6. And now, as if by magic, some of the charges against scumbag Adam Chamberlin have been dropped..."There have been no crimes committed here, there are no stolen guns here, these are not the droids that you're looking for..."

    1. I suspect the State's witnesses fell out or more likely were scared off in the dark of night. Our Town is still out there pushing people around, and is still going after you and Dale and TAFY. And the Port Angeles WA Facebook page has been very obviously helpful about that lately, plainly some of their admins are in on the plot.

    2. Usually the defense attorney will have to file a motion to dismiss charges. This chicken-shit county prosecutor, Mark Nickles just throws charges away without being asked. He says he "looked at the evidence." Let's review. Evidence shows a sex act on Chamberlin's website. Chamberlin is caught with the original data card. He is caught with a whole pile of original stolen cell phones--all that goes away because the county prosecutor is chicken shit or he is afraid his staff is incompetent. Either way it is pretty sad for the county. Hey mark, what if this was your sister who got her privacy plastered all over the internet? I bet you would hope to live in a area where the the county prosecutor is not a spineless wimp. Wait and see they will muff the last charge too or have it miss trialed and never prosecute it again. This stinks

    3. Ah, yes, and the peoples' faith and trust in the legal system is once again affirmed.

Port Angeles, where criminals come to play.

    4. Chicken shit bullies forming posses to pick on people. Chicken shit prosecutor who is afraid of said posse. The classic chicken shit circular firing squad that will destroy a community. Congratulations, "Our Town" clowns. You're enabling a paranoid, lawless cesspool of a town. You must all be SO PROUD.

Fucking losers. I'm SO GLAD to be away from there...

In the meantime, if anyone has any current "Our Town" BS to share, please email it to me, and we'll put it up here. Because, again, they must be SO PROUD of their actions. (But providers here can remain anonymous.)

    5. With "Our Town" doing such a great job of generating so much negative publicity, why are people concerned about the homeless? With that group threatening people, committing crimes, and all the rest of it, who needs criminals to worry about?

    6. And seriously, who can you report Mark Nichols to for dereliction of duty? This guy will just not prosecute.

  7. As more evidence of how well the town boosters are doing, let's remember it is "Spring Break", where millions of college students and families are swarming popular destinations.

In Port Angeles? I just drove through downtown on my way home. As always, it is a ghost town.

    1. Yes, but...Look at what time your comment came in: 4:33 PM. I mean, who isn't in bed by then? You think Cherie would look so great (day in Port Angeles) if she didn't get her beauty sleep?

So, Port Angeles has Hurricane Ridge. Does it look ANYTHING like this?

  9. As if taking their cue from the title of this posting, here it is Thursday, and there's still nothing in the PDN about the City Council meeting...On Tuesday. You can't rush quality, and you also can't rush the PDN.

What's the matter, Clotlieb? Too stoned to right? Er, rite? Oh, no, wait, wait...Write? Whatever, man. It's only Port Angeles...Roll another one...

    1. Ah, but, numbers for this blog are up again, so I am going to assume that the few members of "Our Town" who can read may be checking in here. Hi, losers! Adam, you're pathetic! You're all harming your own town! Good job!!!

    2. Don't sell yourself short, CK. The numbers are up because this blog is way more interesting than.. well.. fill in the blanks.

    3. And Happy Friday, everyone! There's still nothing about Tuesday's City Council meeting in the PDN.

Maybe Clotlieb is just too upset because someone told him that the guy who hosted The Bong Show died...

    4. Yeah but that dufus Clotlieb doesn't make any decisions. He just does what he's told, nothing more. Pathetic excuse for a life.

  10. It isn't as if Port Angeles has anything new to offer anybody. Think about that.

The town has been here for over 100 years. Its' "natural beauty" has been here all along. People have been driving out here for decades. Millions come to the National Park, and most have to drive through Port Angeles to get there.

Yet, the place sits stagnant and on the dole most of the time.

What do these people think is going to happen? That one of these days, Port Angeles is going to be discovered? By whom?

Remember the Twilight series, that repeatedly brought the area to the worlds' attention to Port Angeles only a few years ago? Remember the Twilight store downtown? And the tour bus?

Okay. Yes. It was very forgettable. But think of all the exposure the area got from those movies, drizzled out over a span of 4 years.

And that resulted in what? A booming downtown? Prosperity for all? Are the annual occupancy rates of the area hotels and motels significantly higher today, than they were 10 years ago?

If not, anybody want to guess why? And if not, what conclusions can be drawn from all this?

    1. Yeah but all that click-bait on Outdoor Magazine must have brought hoards of tourists--didn't it? After all we are the second most fabulous outdoor city in America behind the Chattanooga Chew chew. If only we had leadership to match our environment.

    2. Gee, thanks for the reminder about the hordes of tourists. I think they're always on the other side of the block when I'm downtown. I never seem to see them.
