The Peninsula Daily News: 100 Years Old, and Having a Senior Moment (Or Two)

File under better late than never, I suppose...The PDN has FINALLY reported on the letter Cherie's taxpayer-funded attorney sent in to the Ethics Board on her behalf. Well, sort of. They quote the letter in such a way as to perhaps imply the quotes come from an interview with him, which is, of course, deceptive. But still, they've FINALLY acknowledged something we've been discussing here for well over a week.

Way to go, PDN!

Going back even further...You may recall that on April Fool's Day, the PDN reported on the Lincoln Theater (again), offering up a few vague notions about some heretofore unknown Mystery Buyer for that falling down flea trap. The article said that in a week there'd be a press release to reveal the mystery group, their glorious plans, and so forth and so on.

That was nearly two weeks ago. What's happened, PDN? Were you outright lying again? Trying to break Scott Nagel's sclerotic little heart? What?

Finally, here's something you run across on occasion on the PDN's website, posted there in a seemingly random fashion. But is it unseemly for a 100 year old newspaper to beg like that? And can we please be done with the whole "clever" Keep Calm and thing?

    2. Just so you know folks...I'm allowing this stupid, ungrammatical and improperly punctuated "comment" through so you can see the type of troll talk I have to delete almost daily now. This particular troll, as you can see, is convinced I am actually Dale Wilson (from the Port O Call) but is too fucking stupid to get the name right, so he's always calling me "Dave."

If you should know this troll, please feel free to unplug their computer and check their meds. Thanks!

    3. Wonder if that's the moron (Ray/Roy, something dumb) who is the plague of Facebook. He always has something dumb to say. Total troll.
One of the fine examples of PA inbreeding.

    4. I could take a page from the troll's own handbook and say "I know exactly who he is and exactly where he lives." (He makes those sorts of claims a lot, too, in sad attempts to intimidate.) But the fact is, I don't care about all that. I know all I need to know: He's a loser, pure and simple (minded), and it's humorous that he tries so hard to disparage this blog, yet keeps coming back to read it.

Thanks for the clicks, troll! The joke's on you.

    5. AS repugnant as the trolls are, I would like to see those posts. Please don't delete unless it is just too disgusting. Thank You.

    6. Sorry, Anonymous 3:26 PM, but I am going to continue to moderate this forum (lightly) as I always have. I don't see that threats directed at me, or rants directed at me as "Dave" add anything to the conversation(s) here.

    7. 3:26 just go on facebook and friend Ray O'Nier, you'll see all his wonderful "dave" posts, and his crazy rantings.
      ENJOY!

  2. This illustrates the two main failings of the PDN.

One is to not publish stories that are important, or to publish them so far after the fact as to render them essentially useless.

Or two, publish (and publish again) stories, like the Lincoln Theater saga, that are nonessential, nonsensical or are stories about things that haven't even happened yet.

Delay and distract, thereby shielding the good ol' boy network from any legitimate scrutiny. The PDN serves its purpose, and that purpose has nothing to do with the public interest.

  3. And again, comments are allowed for any article except that about Cherie Kidd.

It occurs to me that is the panel reverses their decision at the behest of Cherie's taxpayer funded lawyer, that it negates the whole purpose of an independent ethics panel. Those that volunteered to serve should be highly offended and should consider quitting the volunteer pool as their time would be better spent elsewhere if their decisions are just going to be reversed anyway. Cherie should be ashamed of herself wasting her constituents money like this.

  4. I just reforwarded my original email to the PDN that I sent on March 6 (no response) calling them out for their lack of response and added that the PDN has declined even since then, now turning off comments to any article regarding the ethics panel and Cherie Kidd. I again added that we really would appreciate a solid, unbiased publication that we can be proud of and am surprised they apparently aren't concerned as the parent company about the state of the PDN, and what their subscription levels must be looking like. I closed with "I look forward to your response." We'll see what happens.

    1. May I apply my psychic powers to this one? Let me see...Hmmm...I see a great vast expanse of...Nothing at all...Oh, wait. Sorry! I was tuned into the inside of Cherie Kidd's head by mistake. My bad! But do keep us in the loop, please...Thanks!

  5. Please subscribe? To the PDN? Who n their right mind would do that?

People used to say to me they subscribed so that they can know about local events. But, since the PDN censors local events, and only selectively tells the people what it wants them to know about, it doesn't even do "local" well. So, why subscribe?

And, an interesting choice for the ad, as the original format was a message from the Queen of England, telling her subjects during World War 2 to stay calm. Who is the "Queen" in the PDN ad? Do they perceive Port Angeles to be engaged in a great war? Is that far from the truth?

Along those lines, did you notice that Port Townsend is spending $300 a month on a system which helps give the public better ways to communicate their ideas and thoughts to their elected representatives?

This is in direct contrast to the Port Angeles City Council who just passed various laws to silence it's public. To make it more difficult to communicate thoughts and ideas to it's elected representatives. Nothing subtle about the message sent from our local leaders.

The Lincoln? Just more of the same from a City that is, as it says at to top of this page "..one of the worst places on Earth."

  6. Oh and btw...seeing as the PDN sure didn't break the news first...there is an article in the PoC about Rom Richards running for Commissioner - he's servede before but long before my time - would like to know folks opinions here on him?

    1. Ron means well, I think. I've known him for years.

We're back to the same thing: yeah, I'd vote for him, if nobody better runs.

If Ron and/or his supporters are reading, here is a thought. Yes, he has a lot of relevant background and experience. Yeah, he is on the Board of all different enviro groups, and has been for awhile. But, why not offer your elect-ability to be an open door for the new directions this area so desperately needs to go in? In other words, campaign on being the open door, not on you and your experience.

Ron, and Mike and Maggie and Cherie and Don and all the others that have been the revolving door of local politics in their various positions, have resulted in what we see today. Whether the PABA, the Church, PPF or the council, the forces at play haven't gotten us anywhere we want to be.

      Can we do it differently?

  7. I noticed the PDN didn't allow Comments to this online article. Humm. I wonder why? I was prepared to apply some verbiage.

    1. I would suggest putting your Kidd related comments in another article which allows commenting - stating clearly that the PDN is engaged in censorship by disabling comments in an article on Kidd. Your comment may ultimately be removed, but it will cause a PDN staffer to spend the day scrutinizing all the comments and maybe someone will authorize the comments to be disabled on all the articles.

  8. I noticed that PDN has had comments off on all the Ethics b.s.
They also like to put full spit and polish on the articles when it comes to Cherie.
She must really be doing something that makes all these crazy men so fond of her.

  9. Funny, I went to the PDN's facebook page to see if they have comments enabled there which of course they do not. But go check out their reviews for a laugh - when someone posts a review, the business is unable to delete it, unless they can report it as spam, offensive, or some other criteria that justifies why it isn't on there or isn't truthful. So there's your opportunity to write a real review of the PDN that will sit there for the world to see! Judging by just the initial reviews I;ve read, many feel the same way about it as we do here.

  10. Did you read today's big PDN article where they're promoting from within and patting themselves on the back for what a great publication they are?

  11. Geez, I read that wrong....Cherie is 100 years old?
