Critical of Crooks

File under "DUH":

Interviews for Port of Port Angeles' director search point to "fragile" connections to community

Right, because the Port is a big bed of crooks.

The Port of Port Angeles serves an important role in Clallam County, but its connection with the community is "fragile," according to an assessment based on 34 interviews with government leaders, staff, residents and tenants. "We heard from the public that there was a lot of frustration, we heard from tenants a lot of frustration, we also heard from staff that they feel we are trying to do too much, that there is too much expected of them," Port Commission President Colleen McAleer said...

Right, because the Port is a big bed of crooks.

Tenants and Port stakeholders also displayed a "critical and rancorous tone towards the Port, a general feeling that the Port is missing out on new business opportunities, and a perception of special treatment and favoritism for certain tenants, people and groups," according to the assessment.

Right, because the Port is a big bed of crooks.

Remember the discussion of honest assessments we had here just a little ways back? Well, here's another example of that. And in typical Clallam County fashion, the Port had to pay $40,000 to consultants to tell them what pretty much anyone picked at random from Clallam County could have told them for free: The Port is a big bed of crooks. That is, incompetent crooks.

Speaking of crooked governing bodies...The Ethics Board meeting that was supposed to happen today has been (at the last minute) moved to Thursday at 2PM. No explanation is given for why this (last minute) move was necessary. You can draw your own conclusions.

  1. Aww, c'mon, how can anyone supported by Bill Peach be a crook? How can anyone who begins as a whistle-blower and ends up as commissioner be a crook? How can anyone who starts out as a DEA agent and ends up a commissioner be a crook? How can anyone running a $90 million corporation that cannot turn a profit be a crook? How can anyone who oversees the leases that have been unchanged since the '70's be a crook? How can anyone who looks the other way while tenants pump/dump pollution into the ground and the pristine waterways necessitating a hundred million dollar cleanup paid by innocent taxpayers be a crook? How can anyone who stands idly by while Munro robs the city of a quarter million in utility bills and then welcomes him with open arms to move next door and pollute the waterfront, how can they be a crook? How can anyone, well you get the picture...The port should be subsumed back into county government where at least someone will pretend to keep an eye on it.

  2. Maybe that's why the port has such trouble retaining an airline to service us? Maybe pilots don't like landing on such a "fragile" surface?

  3. Really! Imagine how crooked you have to be when your paid consultant tells you the prime public perception is that you're crooked!!!

Few consultants will say such things, because they are hired based upon the work they have done. Calling your employer a crook, or saying anything really negative doesn't get you new jobs.

But, despite being openly accused of cronyism and corruption, what reaction do we get from the accused?

The City Council and City Attorney of Port Angeles are openly accused of abuse of power, and the Port of Port Angeles is openly described as crooks. What a fine state of affairs.

Anybody planning on moving here, take note.

    1. Perhaps the reason the public thinks you are crooked, is because YOU ARE?
That sounds like calling the kettle black, which Cherie knows (all to well) is something that is best denied, no matter how obvious.
What is wrong with this area?

  4. Hell, I would have done this assessment for just four grand, and saved the port a bunch of money, if not face. This was like spending money to learn that water is wet. WHO KNEW?

    No wonder we're so rancorous.

  5. You forgot this part: “I did encounter a number of individuals who were almost coarse in their criticism,” Boone added. “When I asked them for specifics, there were none. They were kind of broad labeling and almost ad-hominem things versus specific examples of what problems were or what they saw as problems.”

    1. Yeah, some people have a hard time putting their anger into words. We've all heard it before "This is so outrageous. I'm speechless".

    2. "kind of broad labeling and ad-hominem things" like what Kidd resents? Oh wait, she doesn't even know what that is!

  6. Three useless and self-serving port commissioners, plus dozens of port employees. Is that all really necessary? It sure seems like a half dozen professional property managers could cover the port's duties, and cost a whole lot less. Heck, they might even be MORE EFFICIENT. For sure we'd save money on salaries, travel, elections, etc.

  7. I think a petition to disband the Port and turn the properties back over to the cities they are zoned to or the County is long overdue.

  8. Port Commissioners make about a grand a month. Their executive director will make around 150 thousand. Who has the power?

    1. um, port commissioner is a political job, think b-r-i-b-e-r-y and k-i-c-k-b-a-c-k for example.

  9. Why does the port supply Munro with half-million dollar log movers? Shouldn't he be furnishing his own equipment?
Are we subsiding his log yard? Of course "the port" means us taxpayers.
