That Noise You Hear Is Silence

When it comes to the daily working (and scheming) of Port Angeles, there are lots of things you don't expect to hear much about. I'm sure no one is too surprised to not hear a lot of talk or planning for the upcoming MILLION DOLLAR BALLOON PAYMENT due on the Niichel property. So far as I know, that MILLION DOLLAR BALLOON PAYMENT is still looming out there, with the City woefully unprepared for it. But, SHHH!, we don't really want to talk about that, think about that, or even acknowledge that, thank you very much.

Here's another fine mess you've gotten us into!

Then there are the things that you'd expect to hear about - but don't. Remember when Pixie Dust Bob Larsen of the "Composites Recycling Technology Center" promised a "series" of "big announcements"? As in, "Coming Soon!" more exciting news! That was over a month ago, and there has followed a total of, as I count it, one "big announcement." (One in a series! Collect them all!) Maybe the news that the State was reconsidering their grant funding put the brakes on the rest of the announcements, but...Gee, Bob, was your whole great idea, successful business model, commercial enterprise so dependent on grant funding that one little bump in the road would cause it to crash?

It kind of looks like maybe so. Which, uh, kind of makes us wonder if it really is such a great idea or successful business model or whatever else you peddled. Kind of sounds like Pen Ply all over again, frankly. That didn't end so well for anyone - except for local scumbag Grant Munro, that is.

Shhh! Quiet, please! People are trying
to watch a movie that's not being shown.

Then there's the Lincoln Theater, which finally sold - they say. This was another case where the entire arrangement seemed a little suspect, but the purported purchaser promised more information would be coming soon...And again, that was over a month ago, and I haven't heard any further word about plans, designs, management, or even the proper and certified closing of the sale.

On a related note, I also haven't heard anything about how Scott Nagel is swiftly and surely returning the money he (supposedly) raised in his (failed) effort to get people to buy the Lincoln for him.

So, anyone got any inside dope on these dopey endeavors? Sucker-bait schemes make a lot of noise in being born, but seem to like to die in silence. At the very least, let's ask a few more questions, shall we?

In the meantime, I'm going to sit back and wait for the next "big announcement" - like maybe a new airline to service Port Angeles that's "Coming Soon!"

DIY Airlines - Taking off soon!

  1. With the state pushing & funding the political payback to Boeing & Toray in the form of CRTC (to reduce their disposal costs), if any other payback ideas gain traction at the state level, grant-wise the CRTC can be de-prioritized at any time.

I'm salivating for a local PAPA show showcasing the corruption out in the (tv) light of day. Would anyone else like to see such a thing?

  2. Scott Nagel is probably still sobbing somewhere, clutching the money to his chest...

  3. CK,
You aren't getting the updates? Wonder why? Keep shooting in the dark. Looks like you've already knocked out the PoC (web postings are obsolete) at best all the do is cut and paste this blog.

    1. Not too obvious there, are you?

We all know the pattern. We've seen it so many times. Anyone who successfully shows what is going on around town, or asks too many embarrassing question, gets the attention of the "powers that be".

That person now is Dale Wilson. We see the constant snide comments like yours Anon 7:29 popping up, trying to undermine the person under attack.

But, this time, it is different. They've never had someone like Mr. Wilson to contend with.

      Dontcha just love it?!

    2. I have been baffled by what "updates" the OP is referring to. Their fractured spelling and grammar don't help either.

  4. An illuminating story from the PDN circa 2008 on the Niichel web. http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/article/20080825/NEWS/808250302

  5. Per the Peninsula Daily (Bad) News: "State Commissioner of Public Lands race has crowded field"

Looks like Matthew Randazzo's enabler isn't running for re-election, which likely means Randazzo will have to find himself a new job. Hopefully he won't bounce back out here onto the Peninsula. We have enough problems!

    1. I'm guessing that comes down to whether or not he and his poisonous wife Melissa still own the house in Port Angeles that her parents bought for them. If so, then a return engagement would seem more likely at some point.

  6. Listen. I don’t want to waste a sunny day trying to dig up dirt on the County, City, and the Port- (Seems like there’s enough just lying around anyway) But does anybody have health and safety information regarding grinding up composite material ? I live in a town that thinks it’s a good idea to run a big-assed slash burner in the middle of town. These birds think it’s a bad idea to test soils for PCBs in the neighborhoods downwind of a now defunct pulp mill because it might be bad for real estate values. These same folks seem to want to roll over like a doggie and show their little red thing whenever somebody hollers “Jobs Jobs Jobs”, so I’m wondering if anybody in charge of stuff around here has looked at the fine print on this. I’m ok with being the Bumfug Egypt of the Pacific Northwest, but I’m not cool with being the Bhopal, India of Washington State.
Anyway, if someone can direct me to information on composites and health, I’d be grateful.

    1. If you cannot independently find the material safety data sheet for prepreg from Toray, it would be very unwise of you to offer health and safety information regarding composites. But from the uninformed tone of your inquiry, you will not be deterred from offering your opinion. It will be a hoot.

    2. @Anon 7:10

I'm guessing the materials safety sheet is a lot like the one that was used to assure residents down-wind from the Rayonier mill stacks that the emissions that burned the zinc off their chain link fences (in Gales Addition) was harmless, too. Right? That's why the children in schools were kept inside when the winds blew the wrong way. And the cancer clusters? That was quite the hoot, too, wasn't it?

Or, how about the required disclosures for the lands that have now been found to be contaminated. Yes, we so trust the paperwork generated to support proposals and projects around here. Port Angeles has such a GREAT track record.

No reason to be wary of that rattlesnake coiled up and buzzing away, moron, they said it was safe.

      Sheeesh!

    3. Try to make sense of the MSDS that accompanies the fluoride that the city puts in the water. No one will give an accurate analysis of all what's in it. The fertilizer factory that sends it will not guarantee its contents, the shipping company will not, the city will not pay for an independent analysis, so we have no idea what is actually going into the water but all those trusted four freaks downtown say "it's good for you."

    4. First you need to know whether the recycling will involve a tertiary reaction in a batch reactor to separate resin components into chemicals/fuel from the I'm bedded fibers OR if it will be a mechanical grinding process. Then you know how to proceed with your inquiry.

  7. Let's tie a couple recent topics here together, and consider how much time Cherie Kidd is likely to have spent A) Working on resolving the Niichel and other debt problems, versus B) Getting ready for her TV show.

Which do YOU think Cherie has spent more time on?

  8. With grant money & subsidies comprising a substantial portion of the city'z revenues, you can consider PA to be on welfare.

  9. You know Cherie Kidd is still studying all those scientific journals to determine if fluoride is a good idea.

Why is the county asking for more information, and performance clauses for PAPA when they've never asked for the same thing from EDC?

  11. Surely you are not talking about the state grant funding that the Port of Port Angeles said they had been approved for in their press release at the beginning of May 2015. You cannot possibly mean those approved funds that we had to match and that were headlined in our Daily Newspaper the very next day? Why that state funding was approved almost 13 months ago when we gave the Port a million dollars. Look it up, it was on the front page. You must be mistaken I'm certain the funding has been received by now.
