Baffling the Bullfrog of Bullshit

This is one of those rare cases where the headline really does say it all...

Port Angeles City Attorney struggles with definition of profanity

Yes, the headline says it all, but it's what we've been saying for days, isn't it? Hey, Bill, maybe you should let Cherie Kidd write, define and defend her own rules. Lord knows she can dress herself - why not give her a little more leash and see if you can choke her off entirely?

Bill Bloor is brought to you by...

Meanwhile, let's look at what some other people have to say. First up, Doug Honig with the American Civil Liberties Union:

"The restrictions interfere with the free speech right of council members."

Lee Whetham:

"The staff did nothing to halt, stop or slow down this proposed ordinance. I intend to take this outside Port Angeles for legal review...I'm not going to rely solely on Port Angeles City staff to tell that's a legal document."

Says Lee Whetham:
"We're getting readings that are off the chart!"

Comment on the PDN website:

"This story is being picked up by national media because of its absurdity. Port Angeles is being ridiculed as a backwater for stories like this that threaten to further isolate it..."

Another comment from the PDN:

"So Kidd openly lied about Whetham's behavior...Yet she wants to punish opposing council for potty language - which she knows when SHE hears it. Port Angeles burns while Kidd fiddles."

Cherie Kidd:

Did not respond to requests for comment.

Maybe someone can explain it all to Cherie Kidd
(speak s-l-o-w-l-y) during public comments...

  1. Alternate headline suggestion: City Attorney Bill Bloor struggles with basic Constitutional concepts; Cherie Kidd struggles with everything.

    That about sums it up.

    1. Why do I get the feeling that if I were to criticize Cherie Kidd for the rudimentary verbiage she uses, she'd get defensive and say something like "I never say anything that's meant to be rude! It's impolite to be rudimentary!"

  2. I think her use of hundreds of cans of "Aquanet" over the years has impacted her cognitive abilities.

  3. This story contains a none-too-subtle subtext that we should really all be talking about: An admission my Bill Bloor that he isn't qualified to do his job.

Think about it. He's been part of this process the whole way. Doubtlessly Cherie had meetings with him about this before it was sprung on the public. And with all that time to prepare, the best Bloor can come up with when questioned about this is..."I dunno."

The city manager should fire Bill Bloor immediately. It is clear he is not up to the task - any task.

    1. Bloor should be prosecuted for crimes against the citizens of Port Angeles.
He wrote the "agreement" for the million-dollar-balloon. He was complicit in allowing Rogers to break state laws (of conflict). He has allowed so many things that were damaging to Port Angeles, while entrusted to "defend it".
And, he makes too much money.
Citizens of Port Angeles, unite, and get this guy tried, convicted, and prosecuted.

    2. While I totally agree with Anon 8:30's statement, I am not going to hold my breath waiting for the city council to see things that way.

    3. Bloor's been running this town since 2004. Your Council only get a few years in office, why shouldn't he?

    4. They just shuffle work off to an outside expensive attorney and Bill gets his high price wages anyway foir nothing more than seat warming.

    5. IF Bloor is still employed by the city by the time the next elections roll around, he should be a campaign issue. Why would anyone vote for anyone who wasn't in favor of getting rid of this deadbeat?

  4. In Port Angeles, we only will allow you to be what we want you to be, say what we want you to say, look like we want you to look like.. or we will make laws to restrict you, or we will harass you. We'll even attack you with pepper spray in order to make you go away.

With national and international press coverage of all this, I'm sure Cherie Trump must be smiling.

  5. George Carlin settled this in 1971 with the seven words you cannot use on the air.

    1. He "settled it"?

You must not understand the bits that Carlin did about this. The seven words were ones that the FCC would beep in the 60's and 70's. Every comedian knew them, they were: shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits.

It was not an official enumeration of forbidden words by the FCC. These words, and more have been challenged in court, many times.

On December 8, 2003, Rep. Doug Ose (R-CA) introduced a bill in Congress (HR 3687) to designate a derivative list of Carlin's offensive words as profane in the U.S. Code. The stated purpose of the bill was "To amend section 1464 of title 18, United States Code, to provide for the punishment of certain profane broadcasts." In the text of the bill, the following eight words are specifically mentioned: 'shit', 'piss', 'fuck', 'cunt', 'asshole', and the phrases 'cock sucker', 'mother fucker', and 'ass hole'.

(Hey, Cherie, it didn't pass, and "hell" wasn't on the list.)

And, as far as CABLE and Internet usage of profanity... no laws, it's all self-regulation – also meaning that any basic cable network willing to ignore such pressure could use any of the "Seven Dirty Words".

All of the words on Carlin's list have come into common usage in many made-for-cable series and film productions.

So only a nimrod would assume that Carlin ever 'settled' anything.

    2. I'm going to assume that the OP meant "settled" in a lighter, more tongue in cheek fashion than you seem to be receiving. I'm also going to assume they were riffing on the fact that such prissy, pious posturing over "naughty words" is, like Cherie Kidd herself, pretty badly dated.

OP, feel free to correct me, or to defend yourself.

    3. CK, Cherie wouldn't know a profanity if it bit her in her lily white ass.
The joke of it is, these are just words, and Lee's "hell" is not profanity.
Fuck Cherie and the white horse she rode in on.

  7. Might I suggest that we all call Bill Bloor directly to ask about whether or not our favorite oaths and swear words actually count as profanity? Does calling Bill Bloor a jackass meet the standard? Does nincompoop count? How about just plain poop?

Call Bill Bloor at 360-417-4536, or 360-417-4530, and find out for yourself. It's practically your civic duty. If Bloor can't answer you, or isn't available, well then, I guess we have to move on to calling Cherie Kidd herself.

    1. Call Bloor? And say what exactly?

Folks, this is a legal matter. Consult your favorite outside lawyer for the lawsuit grounds. The city has begged to be sued (again), so by all means indulge them. The chances of supplementing your income here are far better than the lottery.

  8. Yet again, "Cherie Kidd did not return calls for comment Sunday."

That being the case, feel free to try calling her yourself at 360-457-0226, or 360-477-1825. Remember to speak slowly and clearly so Gavel Gertie can understand you.

    And no cussing!

    2. I'm sure she can use the phone, maybe not a cell phone, or a computer. However, I'm going to BET that the PDN reporter (who seems to be so in love with her that he never says a bad thing about her) just didn't want to put her on the spot.

  9. I haven't checked there for a while, so I just tried to check the Port O Call website. After waiting for something, anything, to load for over 30 seconds (yes, I counted) I left. Not to sound too impatient or anything, but...30 seconds in internet time is an eternity. I have to wonder if they have any visitors to their site at all, with those sorts of wait times. (Assuming the site will finally load at some point...)

  10. With all the real problems Port Angeles has, THIS is what the Council has decided is so important to spend it's and staff's time on?

They create the upset in the community to start with, and then spend literally months figuring out ways to control and suppress the way the public can express itself about what the Council has stirred up?

What does that say about Port Angeles?

    ReplyDelete
  11. This entire Council is a bad joke. None of them possess enough mental capacity to lead.
The threads on this blog are enough to keep tourists away from here (e.g. the town photos speak for themselves). Which apparently is what they really want.

Ask yourselves: who in this town keeps propping up Kidd, and why?

  12. and, in other shit news this post showed up on craigslist rants and raves. Another fine example of why no one really WANTS to visit here:

    Rest Area?? (port angeles)

Congrats Port Angeles or Clallam County for spending the money to erect a great Rest Area just east of Port Angeles...But has anyone that lives here used them?......They look great from the outside, and a awsum place for a rest area however do most of you know that the restrooms that look so awsum from the outside are actually million dollar sani cans? No running water,No lights that I could tell, and my kids wouldnt even use the sit down toilet because of the thousands of flys surrounding it.....Great idea and an awsum place for a rest area and im sure millions were spent. Why not go the extra mile and put sinks and running water and flusher toilets and LIGHTS? People coming from out of town that use these must leave embarrased for us. But being from Port Angeles and seeing the restrooms at Elks playfield and shane park and Lincoln Park, im sure theres more, Im not too surprised.......

I don't know if it's indicative of the educational system here in this County but any glance at the public pages on Facebook like the buy/sell/trade, "real news", or any others and it's frightening how many people confuse "your" and "you're", or "yeah, ya, and yea", or are selling "chester drawers" (no it's not an accidental typo - I see it all the time), or "dinning tables."

They are apparently a nurses aide, certified in CPR, "which includes Hymlck". I shit you not. I'm sure they are a lovely person but if you cannot even spell heimlich (in which you are certified?) then how can we be assured that you can read patient charts or write coherent notes? This could be a matter of life and death.

  13. Off topic, but in doing a bit of research on the viability of Nippon continuing as a paper making mill, I found out the industry is in virtual free fall:

"More than 60 pulp and paper mills were closed and 33 idled production from 2013-2014"

    And:

Verso Announces Closure of Wickliffe, Kentucky Paper Mill
    finance.yahoo.com/.../verso-announces-closure-wickliffe...

Apr 5, 2016 - The decision to close the Wickliffe Mill is aligned with Verso's long-held ... although it was unable to sell the facility as an operating paper mill..

    And:

Senator King: Paper mills closing is economic "hurricane" | WCSH6.com
    www.wcsh6.com/news/politics/...paper-mills-closing.../82643964

Mar 14, 2016 - Senator King: Paper mills closing is economic "hurricane"...

But what our local leaders doing about Nippon's announcement?

Doing ANYTHING to head off the probable closure of the Nippon Mill? Looking ahead?

  15. May I quote:

    42 USC Sec. 1983:
"Every person who, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress..."

Bloor and each councilmember who voted for it have violated federal law. Let that sink in.
