Turn Back the Clock, Turn Your Back on the Future

Port Angeles and Clallam County are pretty badly dysfunctional, yes?

I'm not hearing anyone disputing that fact - and therefore we'll treat it as a fact - so let me proceed.

One of the main features of this dysfunction is denial. This can take the form of trying to deny that the causes of problems are causing problems, or, it can be as simple as just denying there are problems at all. The first one is a combo of displace and deny, while the second is, again, simply deny, deny, deny. (Repeat as necessary!)

Denial, in its various forms, is also one of the things that unites many (many, many) of the people who are doing wrong by their community. It's a common thread between the chaotic idiocy of, say, Cherie Kidd, and the just plain vicious idiocy of, say, the "Our Town" clowns. Cherie denies the validity of her detractors; denies the many lies she has told ("Motivational Speaker"? Please.); and denies her own glaringly obvious inadequacies. The "Our Town" clowns, on the other hand, deny the real root causes of the drug abuse they so obviously hate; deny that idiotic politicians (like Cherie Kidd) are often one of those very root causes; and, of course, they deny that they have done the many vicious and illegal things they have in fact done.

They deny reality. They deny the world that surrounds them as it is, and try their mightiest to cling to some mythical past, to turn back the clock to a supposedly better, more innocent, purer time.

So, mush-mouthed Cherie the hypocrite can get herself all worked up over cussing. Jeepers! And the supposedly clean-living Christians who are all a-lather over drug users getting high, instead get their own twisted kicks from bullying and violence. Hallelujah! Never mind that Cherie cusses a fair amount when the mike isn't on. Never mind that some of the "Our Town" clowns have substance abuse issues of their own in the past (and probably the present). No, never mind all that hypocrisy. Just do as they say, and not as they do, and turn that clock back, damn...I mean darn it.

Are there problems with this approach to life? Uh, yeah, just a few.

For one thing, the past wasn't as pure and sweet and simple as it's often made out to be.

For another, you very much risk (as mentioned above) totally missing and/or ignoring the actual, causative factors driving whatever problem you are supposedly so concerned with. Drug abuse is a symptom, for example, not a cause of dysfunction. I just read a great new study showing how as unemployment goes up, so does drug abuse. Gee, got any unemployment problems in Clallam County? Hmmm...How often do the "Our Town" clowns focus their efforts to push for more sensible, local, accountable economic development? Hmmm...

Related to that last point, by trying to turn back to an unattainable past, you also risk missing out on a little thing called the future. Here's a line by the fake psychic Criswell, from the movie Plan 9 from Outer Space: "Future events such as these will affect us all in the future, for that is where we will all spend the rest of our lives!" Get it? If not, here's the title of my favorite Johnny Thunders song: You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory. Criswell was a charlatan and Johnny was a junkie, but even they knew that you can't live in the past.

Finally, by taking this approach, you risk opening yourself up to charges of being a hypocrite. Because in this dream world, 1950s Port Angeles that folks like Cherie and the "Our Town" clowns like to pretend they live in, how do you explain the existence of something like this?

Have the "Our Town" clowns protested this place? Has Cherie gotten in their face over their profane and juvenile sign? That would be "no" and "no." Because they're hypocrites. Because they're liars. And because, in their own ways, they're absolutely just as dysfunctional and fractured as the customers seeking beer, bongs and bullshit. That they pretend otherwise is the biggest load of bullshit of all.

  1. I agree with you 100 percent. Most people turn to drugs as a way of dumbing down the emotional turmoil they experience because of real or imaginary failures.Being unable to provide for yourself and your family is a big one. Finding yourelf alone and homeless is another. I personally do not believe the anyone should be separated from their children for a drug possession charge unless an investigation proves that the children are being abused or neglected. All breaking up a family does is further the drug users feelings of inadequacy and add to what probably feels like overwhelming problems. It also adds to the tax burden. Identifying a drug abusers problems and addressing those issues can often keep a drug abuser from becomming a drug addict. Shaming them, blaming them, ridiculing them and separating them from their loved ones does nothing to solve anyones problem about anything. Likewise I am a firm believer that women and or infants who test positive for drugs after a birth in the hospital should not be taken away from their mother unless a option to be released together to a drug rehab facility is refused. None of these issues can be sddressed properly because we spent to much money arresting and incarcerating , fostering children. The last thing anyone who is clinging to the cliff of some self esteem and a positive sense of themselves needs is to be further tortured by people from the likes of our town who cling to their self esteem by dancing on the fingers of drug abusers.

  2. It is a lot easier to rant on righteously, than acknowledge they not only offer no viable solutions, but in fact are a primary part of the very problems they rant on about.

AND (anticipating the "Well then, if YOU have all the answers, why don't you step up and try to make things better?" reply), when "good" people DO step forward to try to address these issues, what happens? Gavelin' Gertie Cherie Kidd shuts down public comment when she hears things she doesn't like. Chelsea Ward, Madam Chamberlin and her crew of clowns spend months threatening the advertisers of the Port O Call in order to stop the paper from publishing, because they don't like what they read. Max Mania and his wife were attacked ruthlessly, and virtually run out of town, because they dared to ask questions trying to make things better here. Betsy Wharton was the "change" candidate, and won on a platform of changing things in Port Angeles. She was "convinced" to shut up, and to "go along, to get along" for her entire term.

But every week at the Chamber, the PABA , the Port, and County Chambers, we hear the leadership stand up, and prattle on about the exciting new ventures and prospects coming our way. "Another great day to do business in Port Angeles", all in absolute denial that Port Angeles has been listed as a "distressed" community for many years, and despite their never ending assurances, it continues to be.

CK, once again, you bring razor focus right back to why Port Angeles sucks, and why it will continue to suck for a long time to come. So many are in denial.

  3. So, we just finished watching the movie OUTLAND, starring Sean Connery. (Which isn't very good, as it turns out...) Basically, the movie is HIGH NOON, in space, with meth. One man - guess who? - standing up for law and order against a corrupt system intent on making profits and wiping out anything that might get in their way.

So, having watched OUTLAND, I am struck by how Dale Wilson is like Sean Connery's character. For Dale, Port Angeles is HIGH NOON, hold the space, with meth.

Anyone gonna stand up and help Dale fight the corrupt powers that be? Anyone gonna call the media in Seattle/Tacoma and tell them about this travesty of justice? Or is Sheriff Dale gonna have to fight this one on his own?

    1. I'll be VERY happy to contact media far and wide. I guess I should ask Dale Wilson if that is what he wants? Is it for him to decide, or is the "Bigger Picture" of the clear abuse of the legal system by this whole group of morons (including the so-called judge) more important?

      Delete
    2. There seems to be two aspects at play with his case. With the case itself, there is the rather obvious railroading of Mr. Wilson and the Port O Call, in an obvious attempt to smear and destroy a valuable publishing proprietorship. The obviousness of a hidden group decision behind the decision to employ a petition for a protective order. And the obviousness of the local government (police, council, staff, prosecutor, and courts) support for an obvious hate group.

But then there is the bigger issue of the means by which the local "authorities" selected to pull off their very dirty deed. Co-opt a very important legal remedy by ignoring the facts of the case, and that no threat was ever actually made (again we have denial at the forefront), and put the stamp of government authority on the smear. Then the threat of criminal arrest by the very same smearing government. All in an effort to chill free speech and freedom of the press.

How in the holy hell would you like it if these dysfunctional hillbilliy criminals came after you for speaking your mind? Is this what the backwater swamp of a place has come to now?

My God, people, wake the hell up! They steal your tax money by simply gifting it to their cronies, and then claim budget shortfalls for actual public purposes. They commit crimes and the prosecutor winks at 'em. Someone writes about this stuff, and YOU THE CITIZENS are allowing the county government to take away this man's livlihood by tacitly threatening his advertisers that "you're next"? What the hell kind of place in America would allow that? Some flag-waiving patriots you are.

If you don't do your part to see the big issue here, then all of Clallam County is truly doomed to hell. This is the county government doing all this, not just one person.

And lest you think this is just some laughable rant on an entertainment blog, you have only yourself to account to.

Thank you, CK, for the soapbox. Bye now.

    3. The best you can do is contribute to a legal defense fund. Go to www.portocallpublishing.com and click on "Donate" button. It goes through Paypal and is secure. This silliness may have to go all the way through the courts, Superior, Appellate, State Supreme and then the federal courts. I do not think the rot is that deep but who knows at this point. I do know this, the soul of this community is in the balance.

    4. Here's a thing for someone to look up in the district court records. Adam petitoned for something in February. By the case number (Y17-00168, filed 2/21) I would guess it was a protection order. He still had his guns then, I think. (Not the sawed-off, they kept that.) Imagine a guy with 17 guns (oops, 16) needing a protection order from some wussy court. What's the story there I wonder?

    5. Anyone got any further information on Madam Chamberlin's (possible) protection order? Apparently he's still easily flustered, even with all those big, hard, manly guns around. Sad!

    6. CK rumor has it this is part of an orchestrated plan to shut down Dale Wilson and supporters who advertise in the Port o Call. The intent to damage them economically. Dale recently pulled his article on the restraining order filed by Ward on advice of counsel he is in a bit of a bind this is pretty serious stuff.

      Delete
    7. I did notice this morning, both articles have been removed. The restraining order one, and his response. All for what? The Our Town trolls gain nothing by it - everyone knows they're losers. I'd like to find out where any of them work and start telling their employers that I'm going to promote boycotting THEIR businesses because of the blight to our community that they opt to employ. Their employers should absolutely know how their employees are representing themselves in the community and the stain that puts on THEIR business.

    8. Of course it is "serious stuff"!!! These clowns have made a concerted effort to "damage" Dale Wilson and any business that advertises with the PoC. They have been doing this for months now.

What about any of this isn't "serious"? That there is a group of self appointed vigilantes threatening people they don't like? That the "powers-that-be" are working with, and supporting these domestic terrorists? That there is an effort to silence free speech in Clallam County? That there is an effort to silence the press in Clallam County?

The whole thing is serious, and is getting worse.

Of course, this IS Port Angeles we're talking about. "Bad and getting worse" is how things are done around here.

  6. Hi from Victoria. I looked on the 'net to see where I might share the following.

I was at a big party last night in Oak Bay, and the subject of Port Angeles came up because someone had read about the group that is hunting down homeless people. People were appalled, but not surprised.

The conversation then turned to people's impressions of Port Angeles, which is what I wish to pass along.

"There is a pall in the air as soon as you get off the ferry that you feel so strongly" was one of the first. Everyone nodded. "It is as if the sun doesn't shine as warmly, there" was another.

No one had a positive thing to say about Port Angeles.

I thought I should pass this along.

    Cheers, Anna.

    1. Thanks, Anna. And yikes. No surprise, though. Even Cherie Kidd herself, Gavel Gertie Who Likes to Look Purty, has spoken about how depressing it is to approach Port Angeles on the ferry. And she's as big a PA booster as there is, but still...A little reality does slip out every so often.

  7. Hey, troll(s), you know what's pathetic? Sending in anonymous threats that you and I both know you're not going to follow up on. As in, you're a bloviating coward, full of hot air.

You know what's even more pathetic, troll(s)? When said threat (as hollow as it is) is riddled with typos. As in, raising the question, "Did you even finish grade school?" types of typos.

Oh, and troll(s), you know what is also pathetic? When you send threats to the wrong person. Sending threats to me, because you think I am Dale Wilson, does not, in fact, make me Dale Wilson. I am not Dale Wilson. So you, dear troll(s), are, once again, very much wrong. Wrong, and oh so amazingly stupid. (See previous comments!)

And, hey, troll(s), you know what's even MORE pathetic than all of the above? When you sign your misspelled, improperly punctuated, misplaced, off-target, hollow, sad, would-be threat with a made up "gang name" - like, say, "the 4th Street Posse." Now THAT is the most pathetic of all.

In closing, let me just say how glad I am not to be living in the same town (or even general area) as the morons who send this kind of crap in. Let me further say that the intellectual mecca that is Clallam County is THE perfect place for such deep, deep thinkers. Oh, and for "gangs" like "the 4th Street Posse."

    3. They actually wrote again, with another, even sadder "gang name," which included the word "Luddites" - except that they misspelled it, using just one "D". Which is what I give their efforts to intimidate.

    9. PA is a city which now actively and openly supports criminal thuggery. Law enforcement must think there's some advantage or "intel" to be gained by employing (unpaid of course) a gang of criminal misfits in city-sponsored "citizen patrols" to go ride fence to locate and harass the homeless into leaving.

What the hell kind of public policy is that? Not only does it not accomplish ANYTHING AT ALL, but the messaging of this official city practice promotes lawlessness in other pursuits, both blue and white collar. But who should care? Whatever the ends, whatever the means, eh?

Makes inquiring minds wonder why such practices of official law enforcement and their types would be goin on. What possible sorts of acts may have occurred in the dark shadows of PA?

No drama, just tit for tat aksin'.

  8. Dale needs to get hold of the ACLU. There was a lawyer here from ACLU not to long ago checking up on that Piece of shit Porter and his pay or disappear program that keeps the indigent population rotating endlessly through his court and the jail. Im positive they remember us! They are already familiar with how fucked up and backwater the good old boys down at the court house are, (sorry Brian, didn't mean you.) I would think that Illegally convicting someone on a citizen criminal complaint for reporting the news would be right up their ally .Harassment is a criminal charge and would stay on someones record. I do not understand why Dale is petitioning for a retrial. This entire thing is so blatantly illegal he should get some fancy pants civil attorney from Seattle and Sue Chelsea Ward and Clallam County for civil damages.Im sure the local ACLU could use some civil damages money. They are always asking me for money. At least Dale would put that endless supply of insurance money funneled out continuously for these legal eagle asswipes to good use. Good Christ, our county insurance premiums must be through the roof anyway.

    1. Bif, Dale didn't show up to the hearing on the restraining order that he was served with. I think it would have been a much different outcome if he had taken it seriously at the outset.
The ACLU wouldn't get involved with this because they're already way over their heads with the things they are dealing with. This is a single crazy judge, in a single crazy town, and -- so far -- Mr. Wilson has not exhausted his legal remedies.

He needs to get a re-hearing, and then we'll see what the outcome is. Courts have a system to them, and you can't skip ahead. You have to take each step along the way.

If, after a re-hearing, the order stands, then...there might be a bigger issue. We'll see.

The thing for Mr. Wilson to remember is that if he is somewhere, and Chelsea seeks him out -- he should call the cops. You cannot have a restraining order and harass people with it. If one person has one, they are not allowed contact, either. So, if he were at a council meeting filming, and she showed up, she could not call the cops on HIM, because she was the initiating party violating the order.
I somehow don't think Ms. Ward gets the real nuances of the order. But, do I think they're going to try and set up Mr. Wilson. Absolutely. However, that would make things much, much more interesting, especially because the circumstances of the restraining order could be reviewed by a judge, and criminal charges (against Ms. Ward) could be a nice outcome.

And, I just have to point out that shutting down this blog wouldn't improve the quality of life in Port Angeles one bit. It would still be a poor, backwards, drug-addicted, distressed, corrupt, debt-ridden backwater and punchline for jokes. This blog is not the "problem" with Port Angeles; it merely catalogues the problems of Port Angeles, to serve as a warning to the world.
