Civic Cancer

You know...This whole bizarre Adam Chamberlin and the Animals story first cropped up (for me) last Thursday afternoon, when I got a tip about it. A few hours later, the request was up on the Sheriff's Facebook page, it was posted here, and hundreds of people were commenting on it. That was by Thursday evening.

Well, don't you know the Peninsula Snaily News has finally gotten around to covering this story. Except that their coverage is more like a minimalist cover-up. The following is their entire "article" on this subject:

Although a public records request for information on more than 2,000 pet owners and their animals has been rescinded, Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict has indefinitely suspended the county’s mandatory pet licensing program while privacy issues are addressed.

Benedict said Friday that Adam Chamberlin of Port Angeles has dropped the June 30 request for “a CD containing all of the licensed pets in Clallam County, including license numbers, owner information, and all other pertinent information,” according to the request.

Not a lot there, is there? The Sheriff's Facebook posting - which is where they obviously cribbed this - contains a lot more information than this "article." It's clear that they didn't even talk to Sheriff Benedict. It's also clear, and even more revealing, that they didn't talk to Adam Chamberlin, the three time loser convicted felon, and ask him what he was up to. The silence on that particular point is deafening.

In continuing to state the obvious, let's note that this all, somehow, is clearly tied up in the attempts by both the PDN and Adam Chamberlin and the "Our Town" clowns to drive Dale Wilson down and out. Let us further note that it seems likely that Judge Porter and Mark Nichols have their slimy little fingers in there somewhere as well. Which, to wrap it all up, shows just how corrupt, incestuous and vicious the existing power structure is in Clallam County.

Constitutional rights mean nothing. The right of the people to know means nothing. The responsibility to protect the public trust (via the press and the law) means nothing. Protecting the ability of a favored few to scam and steal is all that matters. Those who would expose or oppose the crooks will be destroyed.

So, yes, Port Angeles is officially, as is often pointed out here, a "distressed" community. But that distress doesn't come from homeless people, or drug users, or bureaucrats in Olympia or Washington D.C. That distress comes right from the top of the (dung) heap in Port Angeles itself.

  1. Thank you CK for calling it what it is. Yet another attempt to keep Clallam County in the dark ages.

POC may not be all fact all the time, but obviously the core of crooks felt threatened enough by the reported facts to instigate multiple crimes against Dale simultaneously.

The real perps hide under their riocks, while the hired OT scum don't have the coin to be worth suing by Dale or his advertisers as they are run out of business. That's the fact.

So here it is folks, a Mania re-do in your face. Raw evil ousting raw good.

Do you want fact reporting in your town or not?

  2. You have your finger right on the pulse. The graft and corruption is so ingrained they think it their right to steal from the taxpayers. All those you mentioned are complicit but so it the PDN. They never mentioned Madam is a three time felon who was charged by the sheriff's office with pepper spraying a family in their car. County Prosecutor Mark Nichols refused to try him on these charges even though he already had a jury in front of him. Add to that the three charges the Port Angeles Police Department placed against him and Nichols refused to prosecute. Add to that the armed camo-clad wannabe cops who attacked the homeless camp. Nichols declined to prosecute them too. Nichols is figuratively "in bed" with Madam and his "posse" for the purpose of stifling any unflattering news reporting on his dubious activities. There are two slime balls who need to be replaced pronto. Nichols and County Administrator Jim Jones. The continuous rip-off of county taxpayers could not happen without the coordination of these two. None of the county commissioners could pull this off without Jones and Nichols handling the heavy lifting. It will be very difficult to get rid of Nichols before the next election in November, 2018. However, Jim Jones can be on the street as soon as two county commissioners can grow the balls to make it happen. Ozias privately professes he is ready to dump Jim Jones. It is up to all right-thinking county taxpayers to prevails upon Randy Johnson, the brightest among them and Bill Peach who will do the right thing if he sees it in his political advantage to do so. Calls, letters, personal visits, what ever you can do to oust Jones will automatically lower the tax rate just by lessening the graft and corruption rampant in this county.

  3. Exactly right! There is continuity in the year-after-year pattern here. The select few make sure things go just the way they want them to. Madam and Chelsea Witless think they are "somebody", but they are just being used.

Terry Ward (of the Peninsula Daily News) is also just a chump who thinks he is a "somebody". But, like the rest of the clowns, he is just being used.

That "pall over Port Angeles" that woman from Victoria spoke about in an earlier thread is indeed palpable. People feel it as they approach Port Angeles from any direction. Few stay in town any longer than they have to.

Downtown would be even more dead than it is, if the people waiting for the ferry to go to Victoria had any other place to go.

Yes, you're right. Protecting the public trust, laws, rights and anything other than protecting the favored few, meaning nothing in this town. Look at the response the Sheriff got for being concerned about Madam's request for personal information of thousands of residents!

  4. PDN article quote Chamberlin saying "I am a privacy advocate". You must be joking. And the Our Town/CCW facebook page has been opperating as Clallam County Mugshots for a long time. They are still around. They have are just more hidden.

    1. Well, he's advocating for privacy for HIMSELF, anyway. That's a start, right? Maybe from that tiny seed of selfishness, a beautiful person will grow.

    2. Yeah, in a way moving your organization entirely to Facebook "secret" and "closed" pages is just all about privacy.

    3. A group of people who operate in secret, constantly changing their communications network to preserve their secrecy, operating as an armed paramilitary group to physically threaten all those they don't like, or disagree with their views and plans?

Why would anyone think this might not be in the best interests of an open, democratic society?

Oh, that's right. We're talking about Port Angeles.

  5. In fairness, such as it is, to the dreadful Peninsula Snaily News, they have now posted an expanded version of their earlier article. (The second time this week that this site has shamed them into action...) But so many facts were, of course, still missing. So much context was, of course, not there. And, of course of course of course, there were some obvious questions that didn't even seem to have been asked of those involved - which is to say, Madam Chamberlin, Canine Investigator. (Or is that instigator?)

But hey! It's three days late, and a dollar short, but the PDN finally got there. So I guess that's...Naw, that's pretty lame no matter how you try to shade it. And, as we can all see, the PDN is VERY MUCH trying to shade it.

  6. I have to say, in puzzling over this bizarro request, I keep coming back to the same thing: Sleight of hand. In other words, misdirection, like a magician uses.

This SEEMS to be a request for information on people with pets. But, I can't help but think it's a test, or distraction, or...Something else. Because, for instance, a list of people WITH dogs gets you at least part way to a list of people WITHOUT dogs.

It all hinges on how the information - either the direct information, or the associated information - would be used. But, no matter what, I can't believe this was as straightforward as it seems. There is something else there...And yeah, I have no trouble believing that Mark Nichols or Rick Porter had a hand in it all.

I look forward to more information, and more theories, being shared on this one.

  7. Several years ago there was a director of the Humane Society who told me (after he was fired) that the licenses files haven't been done for years. They'll TAKE your money, but no dog has ever been reunited because of having a license.

In fact, it's a big waste of money (as evidenced by the low, low number of licenses, many people know this).

The filing is a mess. No one -- not the county, not the city, not the society -- will take the time to file anything, because "not my job".

So, duh. Of COURSE the Sheriff wanted to delay, and make an excuse. Of course, Madam withdrew his request when someone clued him in. And, of course, they're now being 'suspended' until someone can catch up.

I don't think Madam KNEW what a mess he was walking into. And, he's a moron for not just suing the county for not upholding the public records request (because there is MONEY in that).

And, as for the Sheriff posting all this on facebook, and daring to say that they shouldn't have to uphold the law, and follow the Federal guidelines on the Freedom of Information Act. Shame shame shame. Sheriff's should uphold the law, shouldn't they? They aren't policy makers.

What's next, Sheriff? Telling people that breaking into other people's homes is fine -- if your really need something of your neighbors? Lets promote breaking of laws, Sheriff. Lets up those crime statistics, shall we?

    1. FWIW, the duties of the government to locate public records and respond to a request stop the very minute a request is notified by the requestor to be withdrawn. And requests are themselves public records, so the sheriff actually did nothing illegal. Not defending how he acted, just stating a fact.

Also federal law has nothing to do with this situation. The Washington Public Records Act can be found at RCW Chapter 42.56.

  8. How much do you want to bet that this "request" and the lack of paperwork organization is what caused the former Olympic Peninsula Humane Society to DUMP their director?

    KONP: July 24th, 2017 - 08:00 am

Port Angeles – The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS) is looking for a new executive director.

Mary Beth Wegener, has been let go as the Society's Executive Director, as of two weeks ago. Linda Crowe, the President of the Board of Directors, confirmed that Wegener was no longer employed by the Humane Society, but declined to provide and details on Wegener's departure.

Crowe said that the hunt for a new executive director was underway.

So, this means all of their SCAM "microchip/license clinics" June 28th, where they charged $20 for a "lifetime license" was all a sham?

Meanwhile, why can't they update their webpage more than once a YEAR?

    1. Why are there two different names for the dog pound? Clallam County Humane Society and Olympic Peninsula Humane Society. If checks get written to the wrong one does that go into someone's pocket?
Has there been an audit since they sacked Mary Beth? Wouldn't this be a good idea? Why haven't they filed their IRS Form 990? This looks like the next big scandal but what the hell Mark Nichols won't raise a finger to investigate it. Sheriff, you may want to with hold the next hundred thousand dollar check until some of these questions are answered.

    3. Some hard facts:

There are no Secretary of State records for "Clallam County Humane Society". Up until this year, only full-fledged corporations could be nonprofits. Therefore it is legally impossible for "Clallam County Humane Society" to be a nonprofit, or even to be referred to as an entity, because by law it doesn't exist. This is corroborated by Dep't of Revenue, whose database shows that a "Clallam County Humane Society" had a tax account for one whole day back in January of '89, but nothing since then. Nor is it a properly registered trade name. There is no "Clallam County Humane Society", and apparently never was.

    4. THANK YOU for the information. VERY interesting.

    5. The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society filed as a nonprofit corporation back in 1947. Over the years they have made many mistakes and/or omissions on their annual filings, but our state agencies are more interested in the filing fees than in compliance.

The current tax account for OPHS was opened in 1990 (for reporting of employment and excise taxes), but as of July 5th it is being reported as "Closed" per DOR's Business Licensing Service database. Unlike retroactive corporate reinstatement, there is no provision in state law to retroactively cure a lapse in business licensing. Either you are properly registered or you are not. During such period(s) there are many types of transactions which are voidable.

  10. It looks to me from Adams comment in the Daily News about the over 70s animal owners not on Facebook like what Adam actually intended was to use the Name and address list to slam The Pet Posse by mass mailing licensed pet owners and frighten them into not contacting the Pet Posse should their animals go missing, by repeating their false claim that missing animals are held hostage until a payment or donation is made. Since none of the above payment or forced donation is true I can only think that Adam Chamberlin and his Our Town cohorts were attempting to flex their civic muscles by making good on their promises to destroy any business or service that continues to advertise in the PortOCall newspaper and to silence editor Dale Wilson.

I haven't heard that expression in 30 years. Stop watching old b&w mob movies, and you'll do fine. You sound like a crotchety old man.

Unless you mean that he is the "TOAST OF THE TOWN" in that case, you mean he's well liked, and admired.

In that case, yes, I agree, Dale is the toast of the town.

    3. oooohhh...scary "restraining order".

I'm sure that Madam and his gang of losers think this is actually something that will muzzle the press, and stop people from hating on Our Town.
