Dead Air

Riddle me this: What do you call it when a slimeball hosts a do-nothing?

I call it Monday's Todd Ortloff show on KONP, when Todd's action-packed guest will be Bill Greenwood, executive director of the Economic Development "Corporation." This sure-to-thrill combo will be befouling the airwaves from 1:05 PM to 2 PM. Here's hoping that some real people call in with some real questions, to put both Todd (good old boy lapdog) and Bill (ditto) through their paces.

In the meantime, here's the question I'd start off with, if I was that renowned journalist Todd Ortloff: "So, Bill, can you tell me, in clear and detailed terms, what concrete and undeniable results Clallam County has to show for the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars that have been poured into the EDC over the years?"

  1. Komo reported a kidnapping/rape in PA. So far I've not seen anything in the PDN or KONP. Am I missing something or are they?

    1. PDN not report what is going on in Port Angeles? Really?

PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- Police are searching for a man who kidnapped then sexually assaulted a woman in Port Angeles on Saturday.

The woman called police to say she was near 5th and Laurel Streets when a man with a knife forced her to go with her to several areas around town before taking her to an abandoned building and sexually assaulting her, according to investigators.

The woman was able to escape, get medical treatment, and call police. Investigators say she didn't know her attacker.

The attacker is still at large and is described as a white man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with a strong, slender build sporting a bald or shaved head. The man had green eyes, a goatee and was last wearing a dark brown jacket with a hood and was last seen with a black bag.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Port Angeles police at (360) 452-4545.

CK here: In the interest of public safety and all that, you do have to wonder WHY THE LOCAL MEDIA ISN'T COVERING THIS...

    3. PDN is a foreign conglomerate, not "the local media."
"Local" means this blog, POC, PAPA, Clallam Public Eye, and other Clallam-based news sources.

Only truly local cares about local (and even then only some of the locals!)

    4. Typical. "What, us worry?"

    5. Never fear! Well, maybe that's overstating it, but...Now that the Seattle media and this blog and who knows who else have covered this story, the Peninsula Daily News has, at last, seen fit to throw some info about it up on their website.

      Yes, throw up alright...

  2. Whenever I hear about a horrific shooting like the one in Florida, I think about our totally wide open courthouse, and all the constantly agitated gun nuts around these parts. Sure seems like only a matter of time before we make national news ourselves.

    1. Agreed. It's because the so-called "leadership" of this place is a half-century behind the times. IMHO they're not inherently bad people, just absolutely worthless because they add no real value to this community (and arguably covet anything of value for their cronies).

@9:31, that's a 21st century problem you bring up, and this place is just not equipped with good contemporary leaders who would deal with it.
      As with all our problems.

  3. Ortloff is one of the community's enablers. He sits at the controls where he could protect the community from the constant and sundry rip-offs yet he kowtows to the entrenched interests and makes everyone believe the charlatans who have been stealing and lying to the community for years are the way to go. Remember "Port Angeles United" he was right in there with his nose up Haguewood's ass all the way. He was there when Karen Rogers was ripping off the city taxpayers and cheerleader all the way. Unless and until someone calls out these cretins all will remain as is. Get a clue Todd or get the hell off the air.

  4. Yes, it is amazing how these same people continue to play their game, year after year.

As your previous post pointed out, these same people are content to engage in all kinds of questionable behaviors, to overtly attempt to torpedo people and their businesses to advance and help others their support.

More importantly is to look around, and see what these groups have produced, after all the millions of public funds they have received. Nobody minds someone being paid for a job well done. Do we have any real evidence of anything of substance having been produced, as a result of all the money we have paid all these "economic development " groups?

And, how many of these groups does a small town really need? If I remember correctly, there are around a dozen in Clallam county.

We need to pair all these down to one economic development entity, and demand accountable performance.

Think Todd will be asking Bill to disband the EDC, on Monday?

  6. Actually tuned in for a bit, what a bunch of absolute vomitous crap.
EDC's "help"? They don't offer any info that's not in the public domain.
Their "good working relationship" with the Port? Nothing but a good 'ol boy circle jerk.
Greenwood says "it wouldn't be right" to NOT take public money. He is one hard-core criminal.

    Ortloff is just a patsy.

And then the ads, for Country Aire's so-called "organic" produce, drenched in fluoride? And for Edna's shop? And Rygaard's campaign? My god.

    1. And people wonder why Port Angeles sits stagnant, while every community around us is booming.

    2. That good working relationship with the port is hogwash. They hate each other but must put on their "happy-face" in order to coordinate the take-down of the local taxpayers. Greenwood exposed the idiocy of their new wham bang composites scam a while back. They called him on the carpet, told him how it would be and he fell in line. Greenwood is pond scum and the pond is drying up fast.

  7. And which of the business or civic groups does meet with approval: EDC? Chamber? PADA? Rotary? Kiwanis? Lions? Elk? Moose? PDN? KNOP? Sequim Gazette? any restaurant? any store? any coffee kiosk? Meg Ryan? anyone or anything at all? Is your life that unpleasant?

    1. Amazing that such a small area has so many crappy businesses, civic groups, etc. Must be something they put in the water.

    2. @4:24, contrary to Greenwoood's BS, you don't have to steal public funds to do your work. There are tons of non-profits out there that do NOT steal public money and give it to their buddies. Plain and simple.
So don't try to diffuse the issue, or lump the EDC perps in with the good folks. The EDC is nowhere the level of Rotary, Lions, Elk, etc.

Your comment adds no value whatsoever to this thread.

  8. I never listen to KONP. Why? Because what news they do choose to cover is usually mindless cheerleading and wingnut nonsense. When I tried to get some info about the Monroe Road incident, all I got was a Tim Eyman apologist trying to convince the sheep that corporations and rich people shouldn't be forced to pay taxes. I've known Todd since high school, and when I had the temerity to ask him why his station - "your source for local news" - wasn't reporting on it, he actually decided to snap at me for not listening to his station when they did. Apparently I wasn't awake or otherwise paying attention for those thirty seconds.

And this is why I abandoned American terrestrial radio.

    1. You're right. I've lived in Port Angeles for over 15 years, and I never listen to KONP, intentionally. The few times I've heard a few minutes of it, I've been so turned off by the ridiculousness of the content, I wonder who actually believes such claptrap.

I find it interesting, and revealing that most of the stores I go to around town play Victoria radio stations.

    2. Sheesh, I'm reduced to this blog for my daily news. No big media outlet is worth a damn anymore.

    3. This, and the Port O Call. Hell, I get better local news from the Seattle Times and The Q. But then again, K-Nope isn't really geared toward intelligent modern people. K-Nope is mostly for the elderly, infirm and weak-minded - and those who prey upon them.
