Rubbercheckmate - OR - Is Selinda's Barkhuis Worse Than Her Bite?

Oh...

My...

God.

Public pissing match. Differing versions of authority and reality clashing. Everyone in full denial of responsibility mode. Chickens running around with their heads cut off! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria! Total anarchy! All we need now is a bulldozer.

But even without a bulldozer, Selinda is like a bull in a China shop. I'm still not 100 percent sure exactly what her motivations are, but...You go, girl!

  1. At least we aren't Sequim....rotting, neglecting animals...http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Whats-happening-on-John-Dashtis-farm-is-not-a-secret-anymore-309419671.html?tab=video&c=y

    1. I didn't know Steve Markwell has a relative in Sequim. Disgusting.

    2. Interesting that I haven't seen this in the local press.

      Who is this guy?

    3. I just heard about this from a coworker who saw it on KOMO last night - not surprised neither the PDN or Gazette have picked up on it. What we don't understand is why animal control or the humane scoiety can't do anything about it.

    4. Iraqi, or Iranian weirdo. Check out the Komo video of him, and all the rotting carcasses. It's been going on for EIGHT long years, and no one in Clallam county has done crap about it. Welcome to our crappy "humane" (except it's not affiliated with the national one) society, and our piss-poor law enforcement. This only came to light because one person started posting on craigslist Olympic Pen (rants and raves section). First a bunch of the guys women folk (f-buddies) started defending him, and then other posts started to confirm it. KOMO picked up on it, but PDN didn't peep. EIGHT YEARS....eight years....dozens, and dozens of animals (and the guy used to post wanting free animals for his "farm" all the time). He claims "trees fell" "bad feed" and "I had to hit it with a board, it wasn't getting along with the other animals".

    5. Way worse than Markwell....most of Markwell's animals didn't starve to death, or get hit in the head and left to rot in the pen.

    6. What in the HELL is wrong with the Clallam County Sheriff's office? And, why do we give any money at all to the Olympic Peninsula Humane idiots?

      Delete
    7. Seems the OPH insist that their hands are tied, and all they are is a glorified animal boarding facility. Does this make any sense?

    8. What is with Clallam County? Brand kids, bulldoze neighbors, meth, heroin, and the laziest people on earth. How can it take eight (8)years of doing nothing, passing the buck. But, then one craigslist stink bomb ad and a bored KOMO reporter, and suddenly the Clallam Sheriffs have a fire lit under their ample ass?

Gee, they aren't very pro-active are they? How many complaints were there?

Meanwhile, the Humane Society isn't at all a humane society. The unknown craigslist poster did more in an afternoon than 8 years worth of "concerned" OPH directors. (Even the one hopped up on tramadol would have done more, why did you fire him?)

Give up on the fundraising "meowgaritas" nonsense, this is a PR nightmare for you.

At least that person who put up the post had some guts, and the welfare of the animals in her heart.

    9. What's wrong with Clallam County? The county commissioners in their great wisdom decided to suspend 2/10ths of the county's portion of the sales tax, equaling $720,000 a year in lost revenue. They've starved county government for the past 7 years and now they're hobbling it further with this lost resource. No way to hire new deputies/animal control/code enforcement/drug abuse prevention services, nothing that could actually help the quality of life of citizens. This is the height of irresponsibility and purely a political move to make the Dick Pilling contingent of the county happy. Certainly not serving all residents of the county. Its a travesty.

    10. OPHS is a non-profit shelter. No police powers whatsoever. Bring them sad animals, they take care of 'em. OPHS is not out there chasing animal abusers cause it's the sheriff's job to find critters and rescue them.

    11. All humane societies are non-profits, but the REAL Humane Society of America actually does something.

So, how is it we have a shelter that uses the 'humane" name but isn't part of the national group? Bait and switch? Now I understand why it's always been so goofy.

I will never give them a dime. Rather give my money to one of the real rescues. They're rather useless, if you ask me.

  2. I think she got sick of working as a public servant and having to see this stuff go on day in and day out (she was a county planner). So she decided to run for office and actually try to do the right thing as part of the system.

  4. Said Commissioner Bill Peach: “I would like to officially state that her behavior is unacceptable, she has broken the law and that I won't tolerate this."

    1. So, who should the commissioners take their legal advice from? A person who couldn't make it as an attorney in the first place and who hasn't actively practiced in more than 15 years? Or, the elected Prosecutor with an active, up-to-date legal staff who also said he consulted with the Bar Association and the Attorney General before giving his 16 page legal opinion to the Board of Commissioners and the Treasurer? There is a major screw loose somewhere in this mess.

    2. He says, she says...Each side accusing the other of breaking the law.

Now, obviously, they both probably aren't right...But it seems unlikely that both of them are wrong.

So, I guess I'll sit back, pop some popcorn, and watch the pre-4th of July fireworks.

It's so nice having real, grown up adults in charge here, isn't it?

  5. It appears she has declared war and lobbed her ammunition via electronic declarations to the public. Does she have the stamina to engage face to face at some point?

  6. Selinda is all that stands between the public purse and the county commissioners throwing money at every shiny bauble that some huckster dangles in front of them. Bill Peach may have set himself up for a slander suit. The million dollar grant to the Port has absolutely no strings attached, no contract, no memorandum of understanding, no reasonable assurance they will do as they said with a million dollars of taxpayer money that could and should go to something with at least a business plan. The Port does not even have a business plan to support their request for a million bucks. How can this go down without some oversight? Keep up the good work Selinda. We're pulling for you.

  7. The powers-that-be in the area have been able to do pretty much any stupid thing their little brains have come up with, for decades. The only "newspaper" helped in suppressing any public knowledge, discussion, or comment about what ever they proposed to do, unless it was glowing support for the proposal and those involved. Protests were not covered, and only cursor mention of opposing views, if at all.

Look at the Composites issues, currently. Other than Selinda putting the brakes on part of it's funding, you will find scant evidence in the daily paper that anybody has reservations about the proposal.

Other elected officials have opposed projects and proposals in the past. But the system was set up so that the daily paper kept parroting the party line, and any opposing views were kept isolated.

But, things are different now. The PortoCall reaches 10,000 households with every issue, and the powers-that-be cannot stop it. Conversations like those here can not be stopped by Big Jim and the cronies. Different points of view are reaching the local population now. The PDN and KONP are now seen for what they are, as these other forums for discussion of views reveal what the PDN and KONP have been failing to cover, or have been aggressively covering up.

So, Selinda's concerns are seen and understood by more. This isn't being swept under the rug, as so much dirt in the past has been.

    Yes, you go, girl!

  9. So, now Mr. Peach is also a judge. Seems to me that this needs to be settled by the courts, and not by the small minds what infest this area.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Would be nice if someone at the state level would step in and settle it. What triggers that? Have they been officially asked?

  11. Where is the article in the PDN with quotes from Selinda, explaining why she is refusing to go along with what the Commissioners are trying to do? Is everyone at the PDN so clueless as to not know why she is refusing to cooperate?

She has stated her views repeatedly in very public ways, over the last couple of months. Why such one-sided presentation of the issues to the public?

    1. Instead, Jim Casey is sending her emails suggesting she is committing a felony. Wonder if Brewer put him up to that. Brewer's take on the situation is she is "standing in the way." Someone please contact Brewer's masters in Victoria and ask for a new publisher who can be trusted by his readers. David Black is the owner of the parent company. He can be reached at
      dblack@blackpress.ca

    2. Black Press in Victoria owns a whole wack of community newspapers. They are not about "news". They are all about profit. Notice the big ads from the real estate folks, and the big ads from the corporate types, the car ads.

Black Press doesn't care to see any real investigations, or and real problems revealed. They just like fluff to make the communities look "nice".

  12. Highly educated. Lawyer. Past president of the Bar Association.

Standing up for a principle that there should be things like public hearings, and an actual. real business plan before a public entity gives away a million dollars of the public's money?

Of course there is a problem.

  15. Please know I am deadly serious here. If Selinda keeps this up, then I sincerely hope that she has a great, extensive and expensive alarm system on her house, her car, etc. Because these scumbags have no boundaries. They will plant drugs, they will fabricate evidence, they will do whatever their little scared pea brains can think of to keep the gravy train rolling. If she stands in their way, they will try to run her down - figuratively or quite literally.

Look both ways before crossing the street, Selinda, and lock, lock, lock those doors at all times.

RCW 42.20.070 (4) "Willfully omits or refuses to pay over to the state, its officer or agent authorized by law to receive the same, or to such county, city, town, or such school, diking, drainage, or irrigation district or to the proper officer or authority empowered to demand and receive the same...when it is a duty imposed upon him or her by law to pay over and account for same"

    4. CK - what you said is exactly why this forum is needed as those who work for public agencies and would like to shine the light on injustices have a very real danger of at the LEAST losing their jobs. This is why the trollers who come in here and say that this is nothing but a bunch of complainers either are stay at home parent, unemployed, or must work for private enterprise. They have no idea of the very real problems going on around here and the stifling culture that makes it increasingly different to change anything. At worst we keep our heads down and go about doing the best we can in our jobs to keep food on the table and housing paid. At best someone like Selinda sticks her neck out and sets an example. In between somewhere are those of us paying attention, venting on this blog a little, and hoping our vote can effect change the next time around. We'll keep plugging along. Selinda gives us hope.
