He Who Laughs Last...Is at Least Honest

Don't you just love it when the bad people admit defeat? Especially when said defeat was driven by them being (repeatedly!) hoist on their own petard?

I could go into a summation of what I'm talking about here, but, instead, I'll just cut and paste the response to this story on the PDN's own website:

Let's see...the city council completely tossed out ethic codes that are used state wide and made up their own to punish a fellow council member for using foul language and actually putting some thought into the city council's popular opinion about "issues" relating to Nippon Paper. LOL. And how well did the council's decision, about those issues, relating to Nippon, work out for the city? Cherie? Anybody? No wonder former council member Max Mania used foul language. I am surprised he could speak without screaming.

Ah, it's good to be home...And to have that home not be Port Angeles. Still, progress is progress. Congratulations to the City Council for, at least in this one instance, doing something that makes sense - even if it does simultaneously show them to be the idiots that they are for having done what they have now undone in the first place.

  1. Sorry, CK, but I do not patronize the PDN, in any form. So, I'm not sure what this references.

That the council members are idiots? Well, we all knew that, already!

    1. The City Council, unanimously, and with no sense of irony at all, has voted to rescind their own, homebrewed "ethics code," and revert to what every other city does, which is go by the state regulations. If you read some of the other comments that have come in here, I think you'll get a sense of what went down, without having to deal with the (admittedly nasty) PDN. It's classic Port Angeles - sad and laughable at the same time.

  2. I LOVE IT! The corrupt council members came up with their own cockamamie ethics code to try and punish Max for speaking up for the people of Port Angeles. Of course, he had done nothing, and their efforts went nowhere. But then, lo and behold, those same people of Port Angeles used the ethics code against the corrupt council members who had created it. The same ones who are now having to yell "Uncle!" Admitting defeat can't be easy. No wonder none of them wanted to discuss it. Their asses are still smarting from the whipping they got from Port Angeles residents! Ha!

    1. I'm not so sure these council members have the awareness to understand what has happened. They are so full of their own sense of self importance, they don't see the on-going damage they do to Port Angeles. How they, through their own words and actions, and those they allow and condone, that they are responsible for why Port Angeles remains a stagnant backwater.

They have gotten so used to explaining away their failures, and having the PDB re-write the facts and realities to support them, to try to make their never ending failures look good to the public, that they just don't see any problems with anything they do.

And if you don't see any problems, there is nothing to "fix".

  3. The fact remains, the first and only council member found "guilty" of ethics violations, Cheri Kidd escaped censure when the flouride four refused to deal out any punishment.

  4. And Cherie's little smart assed remarks at the end of the story made me want to kick the crap out of her.

"Kidd had argued in 2012 that the state standards she agreed to reinstate Tuesday were not specific enough to address Mania’s behavior. If another council member exhibits behavior similar to Mania’s, “we’ll have to address it,” Kidd said Wednesday.
“We’ve all agreed that this is the best way to handle it moving forward.”The readopted code is “a living document,” Kidd added “We can change it and update it as it needs to be.”

That woman, who traipsed around like some hopped up Gone with the Wind extra in her antebellum costume and screechy voice on that stupid Positively Port Angeles show, does not have even a modicum of grace! None! Zero, zilch, nada! I take it back, screaming is nothing. Max Mania must have had the patience of a freaking saint. I don't think I could face sitting through a city council meeting with that woman unless I was drunk or dead.

    1. As always, Bif, I just wish I could tell what your opinion is on this. You're so vague in your comments...Are you saying it's another GREAT day in Port Angeles?

    2. "We can change it an update it as it needs to be" - this is why the PDN states the public had little interest - because we know they'll (and Cherie is one of the worst offenders) just do what they want anyway and then change the rules to suit.

  5. I doubt that Cherie can grasp the irony of being skewered with the ethics that she voted in, and had a hand in creating.

Although, the state law is far too general for our council.

  6. Should not she have recused herself from voting to abolish the very provisions which she herself violated?

  7. Bloor blush? Never happen.

  8. Bloor is the single worst thing from the darkest days of our council/muni government. He came here in 2004, and has proceeded to put his brand of bullshit on everything.

13 years of criminal activity. Trying to run out the clock until the statute of limitations for the crimes expires.

Whom ever thinks it is the council who sets the bar low, needs to think again, it's Bloor that sets the policy, and tells the city manager what to do. He's their guiding light.

  9. Just to say it. Since this post is about a quote in the PDN.

As was pointed out previously, the poor excuse of a newspaper called the Peninsula Daily News found some reason NOT to follow and print articles about those Port Angeles kids that got that Emmy nomination.

People from the Port o Call found a way to send someone to the Emmy event, take pictures of our kids on the stage, and to write a story about it all. Imagine how those kids felt! Imagine how their parents felt! What an incredible honor.

And what did the Peninsula Daily News do about it all? Nothing.

So we all see where their priorities are. Prop up the decades of failed policies of the established so-called leadership with fluff stories, recreations of what actually transpires in contentious meetings (as we saw with Gavel Mad Kidd and the Fluoride Four), and flat out omissions of important community happenings.

But to do this to our children? What heartless creatures work at the Peninsula Daily News?

    1. It was (and probably still is) my plan to do a piece on this exact topic. First and foremost, the local paper just plain ignored a local news story of great interest. And they did so for the pettiest, most stupid of reasons - a childish "feud" with Dale Wilson. Talk about not being able to take any competition...It truly does boggle the mind that even the spineless swamp creatures at the PDN would sink so low.

I would LOVE to get someone from the PDN in the spotlight at any sort of public forum, and ask them how or WHY they "missed" this story. It would be fascinating to see how they tried to explain or justify it.

    2. Then again, this IS the newspaper that won't tell local readers (and children) the truth about local air pollution. Among many other child- and life-unfriendly local topics. So they have already established the precedent of being willing to sacrifice the next generation to prop up the lies and illusions of the current generation.

Or, to simplify: FUCK YOU, KIDS!

    3. Lay this at the foot of Leah Leach, executive editor of the PDN. No matter what the reporters write she will spin it, shape it or delete whatever she does not want the public to know. Bear in mind the PDN is one of the biggest cheerleaders for the Economic Development Council. One would think bringing a public access television station online from downtown Port Angeles would be "news" at least on the economic development front. Not one peep from the lap-dog daily about the new television station--now celebrating its first year of broadcasting. Readers should inquire of the PDN's owner, David Black from Victoria. Ask him why the blackout on good news in Port Angeles. His email is: dblack@blackpress.ca
You can register your other complaints against the PDN at this same email. They read and sometimes respond.

    4. People in Port Angeles and the surrounding areas really need to understand the extent to which the sorry excuse for a daily paper, the PDN, is a detriment to progress. This thing about them not writing about the kids and Emmies is a clear, irrefutable example of the sick games they play, and the extent to which they choose what the readers will know about, about what is going on in their community.

Think about it. If they are willing to silence the story about the kids getting the nominations (something seasoned, professional actors dream about), what other events and newsworthy issues have they done the same to?

Can they be trusted? Can they be trusted to cover ANY event or issue fairly and objectively?

If, as we see in this example, the PDN engages in deliberate suppression of important events in the community, then what good are they? Who can support a community "newspaper" that does this?

      Delete
    5. PDN also supports shutting down the Skill Center, and killing the purpose behind it, which is a state-sponsored way to create real-life training for our kids.

      Delete
    6. Has anyone thought of getting the Emmy kids to go down and stand outside the PDN offices with signs that say things like, "Ask me about my Emmy nomination - and ask the PDN why they won't tell you" and "Why does the PDN hate local kids?" Obviously the PDN itself wouldn't cover the story, but maybe KONP might, or even one of the Seattle TV stations. It's the kind of visual that sells itself.

      Delete
    7. Nah, those kids are too classy to stoop to such as that. They will get their accolades on a broader stage than the Peninsula Daily Asswipe.

      Delete
    8. Port O Call would cover it.

      Delete
    9. @Anon 8:45 I know your intent is good, but there is no way I think putting the kids in that position, is a good thing.

It is embarrassing enough, as it is. They already must be wondering why they have been "black listed" by their own home town.

      Delete
    10. As Anon 12:23 says, this is an "irrefutable example" of the petty politics that hold this town back. Yes, shame on the Peninsula Daily News (yeah, the OP is right to spell out their name, so there is no doubt) for treating the towns' children like this. But it is just a clear example of what they have been doing for years.

    11. Here's the weird thing, we all know the PDN is a rag, yet the local leaders just quake in their boots at the thought of Gaul Potleaf taking an interest in them and potentially writing something unpleasant about it. Why? Do tthey really believe the PDN has influence? That so many of the County residents just blindly accept what the PDN has to say as gospel? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

      Delete
    12. @8:41, PDN is part of the mass media. Once there is a perception (usually wrong) that a paper is legit and has general circulation, they can then embark on whatever propaganda goals the owner deems profitable. It's the mere facial appearance of propriety of the product that keeps regular people buying into the rag, rather than spending a little time & thought seeking out other, less mainstream means of information, which are (more often than not) far better at disclosing facts.

Chalk it up to dumbing us down. As much as we need a real newspaper of general circulation, PDN is but one more example of "king of the hill" thinking and squashing any competition whatsoever. Shame that these days there will never be enough mass accord to boycott the crap & fraud that passes through this society. We are trained to consume, and so anything offered to the public, no matter how bad, will be consumed by somebody.

As for local leaders, well, they have no skill in manipulating the media. Not being realleaders, they just let the media manipulate them.

I humbly ask, does that answer your question?

      Delete
    13. @12:45 - Yes, and I agree, but I don't think leaders should manipulate the media. They should just answer honestly and with transparency. If they have nothing to hide then they shouldn't be worried about the media. As a resident, I'm ok with a leader apologizing for a bad decision if they honestly thought at the time that it was the right thing to do. Or, even changing their mind about a decision because they did their due diligence and found out new information. But we know that will never happen in Port Angeles. It's all smoke and mirrors and fear because they know they all have agendas and something to hide and the PDN rag knows this and so that's what they wait to pounce on.

      Delete
    14. @ Anon 8:12 The PDN isn't waiting to pounce on anything. The PDN is in bed with the so-called leadership of the area, and complicit in helping to do what ever the powers-that-be want.

Yes, there are a lot of smoke and mirrors being used to keep the locals confused and out of the picture, and the PDN is full partner in the efforts.

      Delete
    15. @ Anon 4:38 - Follow the advertising dollars is all I can figure. Those are the only folks they won't pounce on. Otherwise they're just looking for dirt to sell copies like any other rag. Why are they in bed then with some of the local leaders but other leaders fear them?

      Delete
    16. Who fears the PDN? Most know it is a piece of shit, and view it accordingly!
