Took a Peak Behind the Scenes

Below you'll find a recent posting from Peter Ripley's blog, titled "Big Thanks to My International Readership!" Which is kind of a funny headline to put next to a map that only has the United States highlighted, but...Anyway, these numbers don't so much tell you who is reading your blog, or where they're reading it from, so much as they simply tell you that A) Most of your actual readers are, in fact in the United States, and B) Other countries have trolling search engines that, for whatever reason, touched down on your blog once or twice. (In other words, I don't think that Peter actually has a loyal reader in Burundi, for instance.)

Then, below that you'll see the corresponding numbers for this blog, for this last week. Thanks to my international readership! Well, to those few people in Canada who check in here, anyway.

As for the rest...I assure you that I'm under no illusion that people in the places listed actually come here and read anything - it's just those ever-trolling search engines. (Though, admittedly, some people in Ukraine may be looking for news from a place that's worse off than they are, to try and cheer themselves up...)

Anyway, since there have been some questions about the size of the readership of this blog, and since Peter had posted his stats, I thought I'd do the same. This lets you know that if you're commenting here, you are reaching people, you are part of a larger discussion. Sure, some of it is sarcastic or off topic (or even off color), but, overall, this blog is serving the purpose it was intended to - offering a free flow of information, background and context to help navigate the insanity that is POrt Angeles and Clallam County.

So, thanks to everyone, whether foreign or domestic. (Domestic, let's face it. Not that there's anything wrong with that!) Speak up, and listen up. There's some good stuff that gets shared here.

  1. about half of Peter's page views are probably just the google spiders/bots that are crawling around the web to gauge ranking.
Clearly your page has been crawled, and is crawled quite a bit, because, otherwise, Port Angeles Gay Sex wouldn't have climbed so far, so fast. The more dynamic a page, the higher it is in the ranking.
    Good work CK.

    1. No, no, you're both so wrong! Peter is huge in Burundi, and twice as popular in Poland.

    2. I'll admit it (anonymously): I am one of the few who reads Peter's blog. He updates it on Saturday, and that's when I check it. Then, on Sundays, I treat myself to the New York Times. This weekend twofer enables me to stay up to date with both the world of fantasy and the world of reality. Needless to say, the Sunday NYT takes a little longer to read.

    1. Yep, decision delayed...And the folks in Forks talking about how it'd be such a good thing to "help" this company through the permitting process. Gee, I wonder what that's code for?

    2. I read that article, too. Pretty much announced that palms need to be greased, er, "helped," to make this happen.

    3. Read the statements of the "brewers." They want unfettered access to the town's water.

    4. "For the brewery project, “there is not fracking involved in any way, shape or form other than similarity in equipment put on site to facilitate the existing water in Forks,” Rau added."

Cuz we know that there really isn't a lot of water in the west end. Forks admin is telling them that. So, frack for it, right?

    5. From make-believe bloodsuckers to real-world water leeches. Fabulous.

  3. Another Sunday, and another batch of disheartening stories in the PDN....People can't find a doctor here, and doctors don't want to move here....As noted above, the proposed brewery is stalled, and stalling for some back room sugar to sweeten the deal....And here comes the Port, pretending to think that some changes will bring back Kenmore, when that is just a pipe dream, and not going to happen....

2015 is off to a stellar start, eh?

  4. So, CK, how come the Russians love Peter, but not you? Confused Russian bots?!

    1. I'm disappointed that I have to spell this all out for you. Obviously, Peter Ripley is a deep undercover Soviet mole sent to destroy the U.S. from within. Once Peter is (finally!) elected to the Port Angeles City Council, then Russian troops will come streaming into town (perhaps over that nice new capitalist beach), completely wiping out all available merchandise in classy lady Edna's shop. After that, devastating psychological blow, the rest of the country will fall in short order.

      Duh.

  5. Someone already raised the concern that this "Brewery" plan is merely a ploy to get water rights so this company can bottle our water and sell it to those places where fracking has ruined their aquifers. I trust the decision makers will add a codicil in the contracts which prohibits them from exporting anything but real actual beer and not just our precious water. That is the business these "Brewers" are in already. They go in after fracking has spoiled the communities water and attempt to ameliorate the damage and or "reclaim" the water. Having a steady supply of cheap (free) water would be a boon to their existing business. Call up your county commissioner and also Rod Fleck the city attorney/city planner for Forks. No doubt these guys already know the score but you need to let them know you too know the score.

    1. As I've said before, and as others have said before...Clallam County doesn't really have much of anything, but it does have a LOT of water. So, take a handful of corrupt and/or incompetent elected local officials, and just add water, and you get - tah da! - predatory multinationals and other unsavory characters sniffing around.

    2. Parts of Clallam do have a lot of water, sometimes. But come late summer, early fall, the picture changes pretty drastically. And, as Climate Change continues to impact the region, the snow pack is diminishing. Used to be a couple hundred feet lower, across the Olympics, only a few decades ago.

Yeah, it rains a lot out west. But that doesn't mean there is a lot of usable, potable water.

Maybe somebody should tell them about Nippon's sweet deal. Forget Forks, and set up shop in the closed down half at Nippon.

    3. The Nippon plant is fated to be sold, along with their (transferable) water rights, as soon as they get the millions the NPS set aside for them. The city has bent over backwards to make sure the infrastructure is in place for this. The only crucial step left is for the city to - stupidly - renew Nippon's water contract for another ridiculously low figure. Watch for Nippon to throw out the threat of cutting "jobs" if the figures are too high. Watch the city cave in, and cut their own throat. Watch Nippon close up and sell out when it's all said and done. Watch.

  6. Ripley's blog is so cluttered and the font such a poor choice that it is more effort than it's worth to try to read it. At least it appears he allows comments on his articles - maybe? It does say you have to be a "member" of the blog to comment, whatever that means. Even more of a joke is that Scott Collins blog - he posts reader comments/emails but absolutely nowhere on the site can I find how he can be contacted or how to comment. Yet he purports his blog to be "Scott's World Clearly The Largest Site On The Peninsula And Voted #1 In Providing Accurate And Comprehensive Information"

    What a joke!

    1. Scott T. Collins is #1 in absolute nuttiness. He gets my vote for Most Likely to Shoot Up the Courthouse Someday. A delusional whack job.

I once tried to comment on Peter's blog, and went into some sort of circular registration cycle that never actually led anywhere, or allowed me to comment. So, as you say, perhaps technically you can comment on Peter's blog, but functionally...It's no different than Scott T. Collins'. In his favor though, I don't see Peter shooting up anything, anywhere, any time soon.
